Supplementary Material for DeWave: Discrete Encoding of EEG Waves for EEG to Text Translation
In this material, we will give more technical details as well as additional experiments to support the main paper. The overview of the proposed framework, DeWave, is illustrated in Figure 6. The dataset is split into training (80%), development (10%), and testing (10%) sets, comprising 10,874, 1,387, and 1,387 unique sentences, respectively, with no overlap. We release our implementation code through GitHub to contribute to this area. Section 3.3, where a 6-layer CNN encoder slides through the whole wave and gets the embedding The codex encoder shares the same structure with word-level features.

Electronic face tattoo knows when you're getting bored
Breakthroughs, discoveries, and DIY tips sent every weekday. Face tattoos, typically reserved for rappers and rockers, could one day be used to make sure everyday office workers aren't overexerting themselves. This week, researchers from the University of Texas unveiled a new, removable, sticker-like electronic face wearable that uses electroencephalography (EEG) and electrooculography (EOG) to constantly monitor changes in the wearer's mental strain as they complete tasks. In theory, the e-tattoo could ensure air traffic controllers or other workers in similarly high-stress environments stay in the "Goldilocks zone" of mental exertion: not so much that it causes errors, but not so little that it leads to boredom and distraction. And unlike regular face tats, these can come off at the end of the day.

Major breakthrough reveals new state of consciousness that could unlock more of your brain
Researchers have discovered that lucid dreaming is more than just a vivid sleep state, it's actually a whole other state of consciousness. Lucid dreaming occurs when a person becomes aware they are dreaming, often gaining the ability to control the dream's events. For instance, they might fly, walk through walls, or confront fears, taking advantage of the limitless possibilities. Previously, scientists believed lucid dreams were simply more vivid or intense versions of the typical dreams that occur during REM (rapid eye movement) sleep, which is a normal phase of the sleep cycle characterized by increased brain activity. But this new study shows that brain activity patterns during a lucid dream are entirely different from those that occur during regular dreams and wakefulness.

Why don't you remember all your dreams?
Some mornings, waking up might feel like interrupting a vivid alternate universe. You open your eyes to reality, but the dream you were having still lingers clearly in your memory, complete with characters and plot points. Other days, waking up may be more akin to emerging from a black void with nothing to report. Even if you rarely recall details of your dreams, chances are you're still having them. Research indicates that nearly everyone dreams regularly–even those who claim they never do.
Potential breakthrough as scientists claim two people communicated in their DREAMS in world first
Scientists have brought science fiction one step closer to reality by achieving the first two-way communication between individuals during lucid dreaming. In an experiment that sounds like a scene out of the movie'Inception,' REMspace - a California-based startup that designs technology to enhance sleep and lucid dreaming - reportedly exchanged a message between two people who were asleep. The company used'specially designed equipment' which included a'server,' an'apparatus,' 'Wifi' and'sensors,' but did not specify the exact technology they used. The study participants were asleep in separate homes when REMspace researchers beamed a word created through a unique language between them. REMspace CEO and founder Michael Raduga said: 'Yesterday, communicating in dreams seemed like science fiction.
AI fast-tracks dementia diagnoses by tapping into 'hidden information' in brain waves
As dementia becomes more widespread, Mayo Clinic researchers believe that artificial intelligence is the key to enabling earlier and faster diagnoses. By pairing AI and EEG (electroencephalogram) tests, the team at the Mayo Clinic Neurology AI Program (NAIP) in Rochester, Minnesota, was able to identify specific types of dementia sooner than they would have through human analysis. Based on these findings, EEGs could eventually provide a more accessible, less expensive and less invasive way to assess brain health earlier, according to a hospital press release. The research was published last week in the journal Brain Communications. With an EEG, a technician attaches small metal electrodes to the patient's scalp, which measure electrical activity in the brain.

Revealed: Why your brain waves dictate whether you click with someone - or can't stand them!
Does the secret to happy family bonds, lasting friendships, romantic bliss, academic and work success lie in getting our brain waves into sync with those of the people around us? That's the intriguing idea being raised by a wealth of research that investigates how our brain-wave activity can get into the same patterns (or in sync) with the brain waves of people we feel compatible with. Brain waves are electrical patterns that measure only millionths of a volt. There are five widely recognised ones -- alpha, beta, gamma, delta and theta -- and these are believed to regulate how we think and act. They can be detected by EEG (electroencephalogram, which analyses electrical activity in the brain) read-outs as our brains go about their everyday functions. For example, beta waves are thought to occur during most of our conscious, waking states, while alpha waves occur when we feel relaxed and thoughtful.

The gadget that will blow your mind: Sex toy uses brain waves to help you masturbate just by thinking
Now you can think your way into orgasm with a new sex toy powered by brain waves. Using an electroencephalogram (EEG) headset and the Autoblow AI, a masturbation device, participants imagine moving different body parts to activate specific functions, such as starting, slowing, speeding up, or finishing. The mind-controlled fellatio gadget is designed to eliminate the need to operate a handheld device, which could be a game changer for those with mobility issues. While the device connected men to a brain interface, the creator Brian Sloan said it could control any sex toy with an electrical output to a motor, including vibrators. The entrepreneur has become a household name in the sex toy industry with his first Autoblow device that uses electricity, silicone, and plastic to simulate sexual feelings.
5 things conservatives need to know before AI wipes out conservative thought altogether
Texas residents share how familiar they are with artificial intelligence on a scale from one to 10 and detailed how much they use it each day. The "Godfather of A.I.," Geoffrey Hinton, quit Google out of fear that his former employer intends to deploy artificial intelligence in ways that will harm human beings. "It is hard to see how you can prevent the bad actors from using it for bad things," Hinton recently told The New York Times. But stomping out the door does nothing to atone for his own actions, and it certainly does nothing to protect conservatives – who are the primary target of A.I. programmers – from being canceled. Here are five things to know as the battle over A.I. turns hot: Elon Musk recently revealed that Google co-founder Larry Page and other Silicon Valley leaders want AI to establish a "digital god" that "would understand everything in the world.
