Proposed 19,000,000,000,000 tunnel could get you from London to New York in 54 minutes

Daily Mail - Science & tech

Imagine stepping on to a train in London and arriving in New York just 54 minutes later. Although that might sound like something straight from the pages of science fiction, this is exactly what a proposed Transatlantic Tunnel claims it could achieve. This Elon Musk-backed concept could allow travellers to complete the 3,400-mile (5,470 km) journey in less time than many people's inner-city commute. But that convenience comes at a serious cost, with the estimated price tag reaching 19trillion ( 15trillion) - over five times more than the UK's total gross domestic product. Musk recently ignited renewed interest in the idea by claiming that his tunnel-digging company, The Boring Company, could complete it for '1000-times less money'.

Elon Musk Calls For U.S. to 'Delete Entire Agencies' From the Federal Government

TIME - Tech

Elon Musk called on Thursday for the United States to "delete entire agencies" from the federal government as part of his push under President Donald Trump to radically cut spending and restructure its priorities. Musk offered a wide-ranging survey via a videocall to the World Governments Summit in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, of what he described as the priorities of the Trump administration interspersed with multiple references to "thermonuclear warfare" and the possible dangers of artificial intelligence. "We really have here rule of the bureaucracy as opposed to rule of the people -- democracy," Musk said, wearing a black T-shirt that read: "Tech Support." He also joked that he was the "White House's tech support," borrowing from his profile on the social platform X, which he owns. "I think we do need to delete entire agencies as opposed to leave a lot of them behind," Musk said.

Who is helping Elon Musk gut the US government?

The Guardian

Elon Musk's rapid attempt to defund and depopulate the federal government has thrown US politics into chaos while the billionaire's so-called "department of government efficiency" seizes control of operations at key agencies. Carrying out this hostile takeover are a team of staffers made up of wealthy executives, far-right ideologues and young engineers that have come to make up Doge. At government institutions such as the treasury department, General Services Administration and United States Agency for International Development, Musk's allies have gained access to computer systems, including the sensitive personal data and payment information of tens of millions of Americans. His team is working to shut down USAid, the world's largest single supplier of humanitarian aid, and members have been spotted at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Department of Education and National Institutes of Health. To undertake this unprecedented and potentially illegal gutting of public funding, Musk has assembled loyalists who largely lack government experience and who range from tech elites to Maga diehards, according to a review of the people publicly associated with Doge.

The Morning After: Boring Company's Vegas Loop plagued by lost drivers, trespassers and skateboarders

Engadget

Elon Musk's Boring Company pitched that its Vegas Loop, underground tunnels built below Las Vegas, would reduce gridlock in some of the busiest parts of the city, offering a new transport solution that isn't a monorail. People are transported by ordinary Tesla vehicles in tunnels and terminals that are often difficult to get to. It hasn't been the transport game changer the company promised, though. A report from Fortune elaborated on what's actually happening in those tunnels, saying there have been at least 67 trespassing reports since 2022 and 22 instances of other vehicles following Teslas into the tunnels and stations. Boring's monthly reports to the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority also showed several instances of "property damage, theft, technical issues or injuries, near-misses and trespassing or intrusions."

Elon Musk - which companies has he invested in?

Daily Mail - Science & tech

Whether you love him or hate him, Elon Musk is the mastermind behind some of the most ingenuous technology projects of the modern era. The billionaire entrepreneur is the boss of carmaker Tesla, private space firm SpaceX and brain-computer interface startup Neuralink, among other projects. But Musk – who routinely tops the list as the world's richest person – became more infamous than ever when he bought Twitter last autumn. Here, MailOnline takes a look at all the companies Musk has invested in, from Zip2 back in the 1990s to his new artificial intelligence venture. Musk has vowed to create his own'trustworthy and reliable' AI chatbot called'TruthGPT', as a more'truthful alternative' to ChatGPT. Musk has previously tweeted that we need'TruthGPT' - a chatbot that would not censor its replies Zip2, Musk's first enterprise, was founded in California along with his brother Kimbal and their friend, the late Greg Kouri, back in 1995.

The Morning After: Major League Baseball wants to deploy strike zone robo-umpires in 2024

Engadget

Major League Baseball will "likely" introduce an Automated Strike Zone System starting in 2024, commissioner Rob Manfred told ESPN. These robot umpires may call all balls and strikes then relay the information to a plate umpire, or be part of a replay review system that allows managers to challenge calls. The comments come following outrage over umpires' missed calls in recent games, including a brutal low strike error during a Detroit Tigers and Minnesota Twins game. MLB has been experimenting with robo-umpires in the Atlantic Triple-A minor league since 2019, using similar technology to golf speed-measurement devices. There may be other benefits to introducing the tech.

ELON MUSK Quotes about Tesla, Artificial Intelligence, Love, MBA, Success, etc.,

#artificialintelligence

It needs to be through engineering and design. If you don't do your chores, the company won't succeed. No task is too menial. If you get up in the morning and think the future is going to be better, it is a bright day. I take the position that I am always to some degree wrong and the aspiration is to be less wrong.

Elon Musk wins approval to build a 29-mile tunnel system underneath the Las Vegas strip

Daily Mail - Science & tech

Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk has won approval to build a 29-mile tunnel system underneath the Las Vegas strip. It will allow up to 57,000 passengers to hitch rides in Teslas to and from casinos every hour, as well as to the city's airport and the Raiders football stadium. The SpaceX founder's Boring Company already operates a smaller version of the'Vegas Loop' system underneath the Las Vegas Convention Center, which opened earlier this year to lackluster reviews. Instead of futuristic cars zipping people from place to place at high speeds, it features regular Tesla vehicles being driven by humans trundling through a tunnel at just 35mph. However, a huge city-wide expansion of the tunnels, which was proposed by The Boring Company in December last year, has now been approved by Vegas officials.

Russia's 'walking arm' robot successfully docks with International Space Station after eight days in space

The Independent - Tech

Russia's long-delayed lab module successfully docked with the International Space Station on Thursday, eight days after it was launched from the Russian space launch facility in Baikonur, Kazakhstan. The 20-metric-ton (22-ton) Nauka module, also called the Multipurpose Laboratory Module, docked with the orbiting outpost in an automatic mode after a long journey and a series of manoeuvres. Russia's space agency, Roscosmos, confirmed the module's contact with the International Space Station at 13:29 GMT. It carried with it the European Robotic Arm (ERA) payload, which can handle components up to 8000 kilograms and transport astronauts. The launch of Nauka, which is intended to provide more room for scientific experiments and space for the crew, had been repeatedly delayed because of technical problems.

Elon Musk tweets render of Las Vegas loop station where Tesla's will cart passengers underground

Daily Mail - Science & tech

Elon Musk released the first ever renders of the Boring Company's Las Vegas loop station, where passengers will carted away by high-speed autonomous Teslas. The render depicts a hub for future passengers of the Boring Company's underground loop which aims to zip people from one end of the Las Vegas Convention Center to the other. It shows what appears to be a fairly modern, bright, design with a centered escalator leading down to a floor staggered with a Tesla's driverless vehicles. Above is the first render of the station where passengers will board Tesla's driverless cars to travel across the Las Vegas Convention Center at high speeds The image shows Tesla's Model 3 electric vehicles which are one of the vehicles the company plans to use for carting passengers between locations. Above the tunnels is a display showing passengers when and where their vehicles will depart and, for color, a sprawling wall ad for Las Vegas tourism sporting the city's'What happens in Vegas, only happens here' slogan.
