The world's first artificially intelligent attorney, Ross, has been hired by its first official law firm- Baker & Hostetler. Other firms will shortly be making their announcements on hiring Ross as well. According to Baker & Hostetler's CEO and co-founder Andrew Arruda, other law firms have also signed licenses with Ross and will soon be making their announcements as well. Baker & Hostetler chief information officer Bob Craig explains why they hired the AI: "At BakerHostetler, we believe that emerging technologies like cognitive computing and other forms of machine learning can help enhance the services we deliver to our clients."

Uber has killed off taxi service--it is a dying industry. AIRBNB is taking market share from hotels and motels--which is why lobbyists are swarming city hall to create regulations to make it more expensive and less available for property owners to use their private property. Fast food places are introducing robots to produce food, kiosks to take orders and payments. Hospitals are using robots to sanitize rooms and agriculture is developing driverless tractors. Back in December, I wrote a detailed piece about the potential for artificial intelligence streamlining the real estate industry through automation. Eight months on, and there is increasing evidence of just how big an impact there could be for machine learning in real estate. The most recent evidence, launched in mid-July, is TouchAssist, created by Touch Commerce, which promises to "enable brands to offer intelligent automated conversations leading consumers to self-serve on digital channels". The idea is to create a'smart' virtual assistant (or'chat bot') which can answer customer queries or book in property viewings, whilst simultaneously gathering analytical and KPI data. Wherever the bot fails to answer a customer question, a human customer operator steps in, and the machine continues to listen in and learn more answers.

And if you must also know, my firm is also contemplating hiring one of such robots too, just that we won't be naming it Ross,but Kunle. Anyway it's still a rumour .But for goodness sake, organisations don't get people employed because they want to reduce unemployment, they get people employed because they need to get some work done. That's their concern, and so it really doesn't matter to them whether it's a real or artificial person that gets the job done. All they want is for the job to be done. And if a robot can do the job more than a human, heck, they would be hiring the damn robot without batting an eye.

An "artificial-intelligence attorney" created using technology from IBM's Watson has snagged its first customer, but that doesn't mean it'll be appearing in the courtroom anytime soon. Law firm Baker & Hostetler said this week that it will use the "AI lawyer" ROSS as a resource for the 50 lawyers in its bankruptcy division, which has helped advise proceedings related to the Bernie Madoff case. Essentially, ROSS is an advanced a research tool. It reads and draws inferences from existing laws to answer questions about specific cases or guidelines that users can ask using natural language. Its machine-learning capabilities allow it to continue improving its answers, and the system can also help keep lawyers up-to-date about new rulings.

Gel1…..I've been here 6 months, mostly watching and learning. Lots of smart people on the site and I've learned a lot from Phil and many others. I have to thank Phil and the many contruibutors for a 80% profit for 2009. I have learned a lot and am still learning ( even occasionally about political issues - ha!) Peace of mind / I have a portfolio mainly consisting of long term long calls, short term short calls and puts, and long term BCS. Three years, ago when I started my journey on this board I would be freaking out panicking as to what to do, as many of the short calls are ITM, Three years later (today) I look at the screen and serenely process the information. Three years ago, I inevitably made the wrong decisions which cost me a lot of money. Three years on I calmly roll the positions to whatever makes sense. I guess they call that the power of education.
