The explosion of content generated by Artificial Intelligence models has initiated a cultural shift in arts, music, and media, where roles are changing, values are shifting, and conventions are challenged. The readily available, vast dataset of the internet has created an environment for AI models to be trained on any content on the web. With AI models shared openly, and used by many, globally, how does this new paradigm shift challenge the status quo in artistic practices? What kind of changes will AI technology bring into music, arts, and new media?

Who Will Own the Art of the Future?
When OpenAI announced last week that its art-making AI system DALL-E is now available in beta, the company also gave users lucky enough to get off the waiting list what appeared to be a great gift. "Starting today," the company wrote in a post, "users get full usage rights to commercialize the images they create with DALL-E, including the right to reprint, sell, and merchandise." To be clear, this doesn't mean OpenAI is relinquishing its own right to commercialize images users create using DALL-E. When AI Meets the Future of Art
It is a two-step process beginning with pre-curation, whereby an artist selects hundreds of images from any time period. The algorithm then judges the images and determines which one aligns with the desired input (perhaps the recreation of a lost work). The artist or curator then reviews the algorithm's results in a step called post-curation. There is an element of human interaction through the pre- and post-curation steps but AI is largely responsible for the heavy lifting of "recreating" a lost work or preserving one at risk. AI is also getting into the field of creating art itself. Last month, Warner Music signed an AI algorithm to a record deal.
