Montreal has been selected to host a major artificial intelligence summit for at least three years. The London-based firm behind World Summit AI says the event between 2019 to 2021 follows the second edition currently taking place in Amsterdam. Quebec's largest city has become a global hub for research and excellence in AI, with participation from McGill University and the University of Montreal, where AI pioneer Yoshua Bengio works. The city has attracted major digital players including Google, Microsoft, IBM, Samsung, Thales and Facebook, all of which have set up AI research labs.

"AI and machine learning are major strategic imperatives for Samsung. There's no doubt that, in the coming years, these technologies will completely change the way people interact with every device in their lives, from phones and wearables to home appliances and cars" Samsung welcomed participants to its Artificial Intelligence (AI) Summit on January 16-17, hosted by Samsung Research America at Mountain View that brought together more than 300 leading academics, technical experts, and university students. The two-day event in Silicon Valley brought together diverse stakeholders, including Academic and Technical Leaders, to explore areas for collaboration. Attendees at the event also heard from experts at Google, MIT, Carnegie Mellon and the University of California at Berkeley. Samsung's AI Summit opened with a keynote by the company's Senior Vice President of AI Research, Dr. Larry Heck, a world-renowned leader in AI and voice recognition who has led AI teams at Microsoft, Google and Nuance.


HCL wins best NLP at artificial intelligence summit in London

Leading global IT services company HCL Technologies has been named winner of the'Best Innovation in Natural Language Processing (NLP)' award at the AIconics Awards during the "AI Summit" in London recently. AIconics are the world's only independently judged awards celebrating the drive, innovation and hard work in the international Artificial Intelligence (AI) community. "This award gives testimony to the innovation and pragmatic implementation of'Natural Language Processing' in the 21st century enterprise," Kalyan Kumar, executive vice president at HCL Technologies, said in a statement.
