Artificial intelligence skills crucial for companies: Survey - Times of India

BENGALURU: Tech upskilling in areas like artificial intelligence (AI)/machine learning (ML), digital marketing and design thinking is crucial for boosting organisational performance, a survey by skilling platform Great Learning has found. The survey was conducted among 307 companies and 25% of all respondents believe equipping AI and machine learning skills is the goto skill for upgradation. In light of the growing digitisation of all aspects of business, digital marketing was seen as the second-most crucial tech skill required for companies to thrive in today's increasingly digital world. Around 19% respondents believe digital marketing skills are imperative for companies to grow. "The technology skill gap among employees is one of the biggest challenges that organisations in India are beset with. While it is encouraging to see that a majority of companies are aware of the need for upskilling, the time to act is now," Hari Krishnan Nair, co-founder of Great Learning, said.

New UAE-based institute to boost students' Artificial Intelligence skills

A new institute dedicated to teaching Artificial Intelligence (AI) applications to university students has been launched in Abu Dhabi on Monday (July 15). This is the first-of-its-kind-institute in the UAE will also train government and industries in AI science and applications. With a Dh160 million five-year-fund for AI projects, Khalifa University of Science and Technology launched the Artificial Intelligence and Intelligent Systems Institute (AI Institute) which will focus on AI, data science, robotics, next generation networks, semiconductor technologies and cybersecurity. The AI Institute will bring all the university's research in robotics, artificial intelligence (AI), cyber-security, data science and information and communication technologies under a single umbrella. "Khalifa University's AI Institute, a single umbrella that gathers activities of six research centres, reflects our commitment to research in next generation digital technologies that are priority areas for the UAE's economy," Dr Arif Sultan Al Hammadi, executive vice-president of Khalifa University of Science and Technology said during the launch of the AI Institute.

Indian Women Making the Significant Proportion of Artificial Intelligence Workforce Analytics Insight

According to a global study, in terms of women's advancements in the workforce, India is inconsistent due to various reasons. The study also revealed that while the participation of Indian women in the workforce is only 27 percent, they have a higher-than-average share in artificial intelligence skill set. The global provider of executive search, leadership assessment, and development, Heidrick and Struggles discovered that the country has an inconsistent history of the advancement of women due to cultural norms that fundamentally male-dominant and strongly favor males from birth. The gender inequality in India is hard to tackle which subsequently leads to a low 27 percent participation of women in the workforce. The report also revealed that the low participation rate is due to various cultural factors, as well as challenges faced by women in the workplace, including healthcare access, gender bias, and lack of flexible working opportunities.


Government provides boost to artificial intelligence skills

The Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy (BEIS) has announced funding to boost the national artificial intelligence (AI) skills base. One of the funding packages comes from industry and government, and will see £200m going towards 1,000 PhD places focused on AI in the next five years. Students will study the application of the technology to support diagnostics in healthcare and enhance processes in industries such as aviation and car manufacturing. Separately, a further £170m will be committed to funding 1,700 places to study PhDs in biosciences. Announcing the funding, prime minister Boris Johnson said the UK must continue to be world-leading in AI and technology.
