Artificial Intelligence breakthrough: Expert 'open to idea' new AI tech 'is conscious'

#artificialintelligence

Cutting-edge AI tech has been described as'conscious' by a leading philosophy of mind expert. New York University's Professor David Chalmers made the bombshell claim while discussing the highly-controversial Generative Pre-trained Transformer 3 (GPT-3) - OpenAI's powerful new language generator able to create content better than anything else ever made.

Artificial Intelligence Breakthrough: Training and Image Recognition on Low Power CPU (with no GPU), via Explainable-AI for Smart Appliance Pilot for Bosch

#artificialintelligence

Z Advanced Computing, Inc. (ZAC), the pioneer startup on Explainable-AI (Artificial Intelligence) (XAI), is developing its Smart Home product line through a paid-pilot for Smart Appliances for BSH Home Appliances (a subsidiary of the Bosch Group, originally a joint venture between Bosch and Siemens), the largest manufacturer of home appliances in Europe and one of the largest in the world. ZAC just successfully finished its Phase 1 of the pilot program. "Our cognitive-based algorithm is more robust, resilient, consistent, and reproducible, with a higher accuracy, than Convolutional Neural Nets or GANs, which others are using now. It also requires much smaller number of training samples, compared to CNNs, which is a huge advantage," said Dr. Saied Tadayon, CTO of ZAC. "We did the entire work on a regular laptop, for both training and recognition, without any dedicated GPU. So, our computing requirement is much smaller than a typical Neural Net, which requires a dedicated GPU," continued Dr. Bijan Tadayon, CEO of ZAC.

Artificial Intelligence breakthrough could save lives through screening

#artificialintelligence

An international team of researchers has found a computer algorithm to be as effective at detecting breast cancer from x-rays as human radiologists. Researchers from Google Health, DeepMind, Imperial College London, the NHS and Northwestern University in the US have designed and trained an artificial intelligence (AI) model on mammography images from almost 29,000 women. The AI displayed a similar degree of accuracy to expert radiologists in identifying cancers from images, according to the findings published yesterday (Jan 1). This new research provides hope that AI could potentially assist clinical staff in future practice, after various projects showed that AI also reduced screening errors, helping to limit the number of incorrectly diagnosed patients. The AI could potentially be introduced around the world, supporting decision-making and reducing pressure on healthcare systems and the workload of clinical reviewers.

Artificial Intelligence breakthrough: Google has taught an AI to discern different smells

#artificialintelligence

What may register as woody to one person appear earthy to someone else. Some molecules may seem similar on a molecular level but they have differing scents when arranged in mirror images, causing problems for AI. However, the Google researchers believe the cutting-edge system may help advance artificial olfaction and help it keep pace with other senses bolstered or mimicked by AI. The Google team wrote: "Based on these early results with graph neural networks for molecular properties, we hope machine learning can eventually do for olfaction what it has already done for vision and hearing." Artificial intelligence breakthrough: Self-taught AI solved Rubik's Cube in just 1 second

#artificialintelligence

"The solution to the Rubik's Cube involves more symbolic, mathematical and abstract thinking, so a deep learning machine that can crack such a puzzle is getting closer to becoming a system that can think, reason, plan and make decisions." An expert system designed for a narrow task, such as only solving a Rubik's Cube will forever be limited to that domain. But a system like DeepCubeA, boasting an adaptable neural net, can be used for other tasks, such as solving complex scientific, mathematical, and engineering problems. Stephen McAleer, a co-author of the new paper, told Gizmodo how this system "is a small step toward creating agents that are able to learn how to think and plan for themselves in new environments." Reinforcement learning works the way it sounds.

Artificial Intelligence BREAKTHROUGH: These incredible paintings were made by an AI ROBOT

#artificialintelligence

Artificial intelligence has quickly grown to dominate the tech industry, with smart computers finding their way into cars, phones and even washing machines. Art curator and gallery director Aidan Meller pondered this question when he studied the "terrifying" implications of widespread AI development. Mr Meller, whose background is strictly in dealing with art, has no prior experience with robotics or artificial intelligence. However, his fascination with the cultural zeitgeist of today – Artificial Intelligence – has resulted in the birth of a new kind of artist.

The recognition of objects is one of the main goals for computer vision research. Some of the applications include: the automation on the assembly line, inspection of integrated circuit chips to detect defects in them, security in face and fingerprint recognition, medical diagnosis and detection of abnormal cells that may indicate cancer, remote sensing for automated recognition of possible hostile terrain to generate maps and aids for the visually impaired of mechanical guide dogs. However, 3D object recognition has been one of the challenging processes facing computer vision systems. One Maryland-based startup may finally have the answer to the problem. The startup, Z Advanced Computing, announced today that it has made technical and scientific breakthrough towards Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence (AI), where the various attributes and details of 3D (three dimensional) objects can be recognized from any view or angle, using its novel General-AI techniques.
