artificial intelligence apocalypse
The Artificial Intelligence Apocalypse (Part 1)
Regarding our morality on how we treat others, which are self-aware, hereby some remarks: 1. Some animal species are self-aware, means recognizing themselves in a mirror, e.g. Even if we acknowledge, there are other species with self-awareness, we still treat them like animals, means less consideration than slaves, because we have no interest to communicate with them as equals. Hence we have self-declared ourselves as most important, others have to comply. WE and only WE ALONE are the dominant species on this planet and this hard obtained achievement must be defended under all circumstances, at all costs.
The Artificial Intelligence Apocalypse (Part 3)
In Part 1 of this 3-part miniseries, we discussed the origins of artificial intelligence (AI), and we considered some low-hanging AI-enabled fruit in the form of speech recognition, voice control, and machine vision. In Part 2, we noted some of the positive applications of AI, like recognizing skin cancer, identifying the source of outbreaks of food poisoning, and the early detection of potential pandemics. In fact, there are so many feel-good possibilities for the future that they can make your head spin. In a moment, we'll ponder a few more of these before turning our attention to the dark side. Another topic we considered in Part 2 was the combination of mediated reality (MR) and AI, where mediated reality encompasses both augmented reality (AR) and deletive reality (DR). In the case of AR, information is added to the reality we are experiencing.
Elon Musk's Plan to Save Humanity from the Artificial Intelligence Apocalypse
Last week, Elon Musk confirmed that his company, NeuraLink, is working on the development of a brain-machine interface (BMI). For the last couple of years, Musk has made no secret of his fears of artificial intelligence advancing to the point where it overtakes its human creators. Musk believes that in order to safeguard the human race against a superintelligent machine apocalypse, we must essentially become them: cyborgs whose minds are internally augmented by advanced computer systems. Along the way, he believes, this transition will spawn countless benefits -- and profitable industries -- for humans. The concept of a brain-machine interface (BMI) remained in the realm of science fiction until fairly recently.
Tech must look to past to protect the future from an artificial intelligence apocalypse
Through a joint alliance on artificial intelligence, five tech giants need to take a better look at the guidelines established by one of the most influential writers of modern science fiction to protect us from an apocalyptic future. Fears of what autonomous technologies are capable of is entirely understandable, even though artificial intelligence is still in early stages. IBM, -0.11% and Microsoft Corp. MSFT, -1.09% have created an ethics-focused nonprofit that says it has goals such as educating the public, protecting the privacy and security of individuals, and to create a forum for discussion of the complex issues in a future with machines may be in decision-making roles. The Partnership on AIproposed a set of eight tenets to ensure that the use of AI is "beneficial to people and society." But the corporate-sounding tenets seem to be a trumped-up, yet still watered-down, version of the three fundamental "Rules of Robotics," as written by legendary science fiction author Isaac Asimov.
