Fed up with Big Tech? Find out how to get your privacy back, explore alternatives to Google
Years ago, we searched the web, bought new gadgets, and typed in our email addresses without much thought. As far as accounts went, "Hey if it's free, sign me up," we thought. Fast forward to now, and you can't go online or turn on the news without hearing about the control Big Tech has on our lives – and the growing resentment around it. Probably due to government initiatives, tech companies are making changes to address these concerns. You can now password protect the page that reveals all your Google searches and other activity.
Now Apple Maps can help you find COVID-19 vaccination sites
Starting today, people in the US can use Apple Maps to find nearby COVID-19 vaccination sites. You can find the locations by tapping on the search bar and then the COVID-19 Vaccines icon under the "Find Nearby" menu. If it helps, that's the same part of the interface where you find nearby restaurants and gas stations. Another option is to ask Siri something like, "Where can I get a COVID vaccination?" As with Facebook's vaccine-finding utility, Apple is sourcing the listings from the Boston Children's Hospital VaccineFinder database.
Apple Maps will now display where to get a COVID vaccine
Your iPhone will make it easier to find a location to receive a COVID-19 vaccination. Apple announced Tuesday it will display on its Apple Maps app locations where users can go to get a COVID vaccine. The data comes from VaccineFinder, a free, online service developed by Boston Children's Hospital that offers information on where they can get a vaccine. Apple product users can search for a nearby vaccination site by asking Siri or typing in the search bar within Maps. When you click on a specific site within Maps, you will find details including address, phone number and operating hours.

Apple is using Subaru Imprezas with old garbage-can Mac Pros to map the US
Early this year, Apple officially finished rebuilding Apple Maps in the US. Today, 9to5Mac shared some exclusive details about how Apple operates its mapping vehicles and how it manages the data they capture. According to internal materials seen by 9to5Mac, Apple's 3D Vision team cruises around in a fleet of white Subaru Imprezas. The vehicles are equipped with high-res cameras and LiDAR scanners that combine computer vision and machine learning data to generate 3D images on Apple Maps. All of that data is processed by a 2013 Mac Pro and stored in four SSDs with 4TB of storage each.
