Annapurna's entire video game team has reportedly left the company
The entire Annapurna Interactive team has left the company after its executives walked out, according to Bloomberg. Apparently, the video game publisher's president, Nathan Gary, had been negotiating with Annapurna Pictures' founder Megan Ellison to spin off Annapurna Interactive into its own entity. A company spokesperson confirmed to Bloomberg that the parties had explored the possibility of a spinoff, but their discussions broke down. Gary and the publisher's other executives had resigned and walked out as a result, and the team's other members had followed suit. "All 25 members of the Annapurna Interactive team collectively resigned," the team said in a joint statement.
Here's the cream of the crop from the Day of the Devs Game Awards stream
Day of the Devs is awesome. It's a showcase that pops up a few times a year to promote promising, in-progress indie games, irrespective of publisher, genre, budget, visual style or release window. It's curated by the folks at Double Fine and iam8bit, and they've been hosting Day of the Devs live events and digital showcases for the past 11 years. The latest Day of the Devs celebration wrapped up on December 6, the day before The Game Awards, and it featured 20 marvelous and strange independent projects. The virtual show included a few world premieres and release date announcements, but mostly, it was a celebration of creativity and innovation in indie games.

'Blade Runner 2033: Labyrinth' is a new game set between the two movies
Annapurna Interactive is developing a game based on the iconic science fiction film Blade Runner. The game's set between the events of Blade Runner and Blade Runner 2049, so you can get some closure as to what Deckard was doing before meeting up with Ryan Gosling in an abandoned casino or whatever. Blade Runner 2033: Labyrinth follows a Blade Runner -- the name on their ID is blanked out in the trailer -- as they explore a mysterious location called the "land of the dead." You can't tell much from the trailer, but we see footage of what looks like an early version of the memory-crafting technology seen in Blade Runner 2049. Annapurna says this game is actually canon and it takes place just one year after the events of the original film, which would put it directly in the crosshairs of some big events alluded to in the sequel. It's always good to see more Blade Runner in gaming, especially after the criminally underrated and recently remastered 1997 adventure title.

'Sound Shapes' creator Jessica Mak is making a game with Annapurna Interactive
The last time Jessica Mak released a game was in 2012 when they worked with Sony's Santa Monica Studio to create Sound Shapes. The game went on to become one of the PlayStation Vita's standout gems, in part thanks to an unforgettable soundtrack that featured contributions from Shaw-Han Liem of I Am Robot and Proud fame, Indie Game: The Movie composer Jim Guthrie and Beck. After nearly a decade since the release of Sound Shapes, Mak is working with Annapurna Interactive on a new project, the publisher announced on Thursday during its developer showcase. The game doesn't have an official name or release date yet, but Mak shared some details about the project. Like Everyday Shooter and Sound Shapes, music will play a central part in the experience, and part of the reason Mak took a break from making games was to become a better musician."The

Annapurna Interactive is releasing a PS4 box set with eight games
Annapurna Interactive hasn't been around that long and it has already published many memorable games, including Outer Wilds, Donut County, What Remains of Edith Finch and Sayonara Wild Hearts (my favorite game of 2019). To celebrate its first five years as an indie powerhouse, AI has teamed up with iam8bit to release physical PS4 box sets containing eight titles. They'll include those previously mentioned games, along with Kentucky Route Zero: TV Edition and Wattam. Telling Lies and Gorogoa are also included in the box sets, which'll mark the first physical PS4 release for both of those games. The $179.99 Annapurna Interactive Ultimate PS4 Collection includes exclusive cover sheets.

The Game Awards 2018: God of War and Red Dead dominate
The Christmas countdown clock is ticking, and you might be wondering what games to ask for in your stocking. With so many launching every month, it can be tricky to pick out the must-plays. The Game Awards recognises the best games released every year, and has announced the full list of nominees. Perhaps unsurprisingly Red Dead Redemption II and God of War lead the pack, with eight nominations each. Both were nominated for the highest prize, Game of the Year, alongside Assassin's Creed Odyssey, Celeste, Marvel's Spider-Man and Monster Hunter: World.
