Are we looking at the first mass market ROBOT? Jeff Bezos, Nvidia, Microsoft and others pour 700million into robotics company whose humanoid machine could 'alleviate worker shortages'

Daily Mail - Science & tech

The funding round is nearly ten times as much as the 70 million that this new robotics firm, Figure AI, managed to raise last May. Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, through his venture firm Explore Investments LLC, pledged an optimistic 100 million to the company, with Microsoft investing nearly as much, 95 million. Figure AI hopes that its first AI humanoid robot, Figure 01, will prove capable at jobs too dangerous for human laborers and might alleviate worker shortages. For now, the humanoid machine has proven itself adept at making a cup of coffee. Meet Sophia, World's First AI Humanoid Robot

#artificialintelligence

Sophia is a humanoid robot developed by Hanson Robotics, a Hong Kong-based company. It was activated on April 19, 2015 and has since gained significant attention and recognition for its human-like appearance and capabilities. Sophia is considered to be the world's first AI humanoid robot because of its advanced artificial intelligence and ability to mimic human facial expressions and movements. Sophia is powered by a proprietary AI platform that allows it to recognize faces, make eye contact, and carry on basic conversations. It can also respond to touch and other sensory inputs, and can learn from its interactions with humans.

NEWS: Elon Musk Reveals Two Prototypes of Tesla's AI Humanoid Robot, Expects to Build "Millions" of Units -- The Confessionals

#artificialintelligence

A little over a year after announcing that Tesla would build a friendly robot for mass production, Elon Musk unveiled two humanoid prototypes during Tesla's 2022 AI Day. Dubbed "Optimus," the first robot Musk revealed featured exposed wiring and exhibited a few small movements. The second prototype looked sleeker, but so far it is incapable of walking. While the humanoids did not appear as advanced as many people had anticipated, Musk believes that his Tesla robots will be ready to roll out within three to five years, and expects to manufacture "millions" of units. The rather underwhelming AI prototypes Musk debuted don't seem to inspire too much fear of a robot takeover, but who knows what the technopreneur - who one day hopes to sync human brains with computers - may develop in the next half a decade!

Tesla is building an AI humanoid robot called Optimus, says Elon Musk

New Scientist

Tesla will branch out from building electric, self-driving cars to produce humanoid robots designed to "eliminate dangerous, repetitive, boring tasks" and respond to voice commands from their owners. The robot, referred to as Optimus by those inside the company, will be 173 centimetres tall and weigh 57 kilograms. Its body will be powered by 40 electromechanical actuators and its face will feature a screen display. Optimus will be able to carry a cargo of up to 20 kilograms, and Tesla's CEO Elon Musk claims that a working prototype will be ready next year. Speaking at the company's AI Day event, designed to attract engineering and research talent to the company, Musk said that much of the technology in Tesla's self-driving cars is applicable to or useful in creating humanoid robots.

Dominican Republic will receive Sophia, the AI humanoid robot

In the framework of the presentation of what will be ClaroTec 2019, its event focused on the technological world the Claro telecommunications company announced that Sophia, the humanoid robot will come to the Dominican Republic. The android, which utilizes artificial intelligence and has been invited to numerous events in the area of technology in various countries, will be part of the attractions of the activities that are scheduled to take place this October 27 at the Port of Sans Souci. Sophia wears black, blinks and shakes her head when she hears questions. Her expressive light eyes and the artificial skin with which she is covered suggest that the speaker is a human, except for the circuits that are visible on the back of her head. Her body of about 30 kilos in weight is built from the waist up and rests on a table from which she replies that humans "are the most creative creatures on the planet, but also the most destructive and cruel."
