What to expect from Microsoft Build 2024: The Surface event, Windows 11 and AI

Engadget

If you can't tell by now, just about every tech company is eager to pray at the altar of AI, for better or worse. Google's recent I/O developer conference was dominated by AI features, like its seemingly life-like Project Astra assistant. Just before that, OpenAI debuted GPT 4o, a free and conversational AI model that's disturbingly flirty. Next up is Microsoft Build 2024, the company's developer conference that's kicking off next week in Seattle. Normally, Build is a fairly straightforward celebration of Microsoft's devotion to productivity, with a dash of on-stage coding to excite the developer crowd.

Windows' AI-powered future could feature 'Qualcomm Inside'

PCWorld

For years, AMD and especially Intel have dominated the PC industry, even after Qualcomm introduced its first Snapdragon processors for laptops. Now, Microsoft may be giving pride of place to Qualcomm's Snapdragon X Elite processor with an upcoming Windows feature -- and leaving AMD and Intel out in the cold. In May, Microsoft will host its annual Build conference in Seattle. Microsoft will open that conference with a presentation from chief executive Satya Nadella to "share our AI vision across hardware and software," according to Microsoft. That presentation is expected to introduce the Surface Pro 10 and Surface Laptop 5 for consumers, both featuring Qualcomm's surprisingly powerful Snapdragon X Elite processor, based on the Arm architecture.

How to watch the Microsoft Surface, Windows AI and Copilot event

Engadget

The festivities start at 12PM ET on Thursday, March 21. The best way to watch everything unfold is via the official Microsoft stream; it doesn't look like they'll have a stream on YouTube this time. This is the first Microsoft live event without former chief product officer and longtime keynote presenter Panos Panay, who departed for Amazon last year. The event is being advertised as a "new era of work", so there's going to be a major focus on the commercial space. There are plenty of rumors that Microsoft will take the opportunity to unveil a spate of new Surface devices.

Microsoft is holding a Surface and Windows AI event on March 21

Engadget

Microsoft has announced that it's holding an event on March 21 that will focus on its upcoming generative AI devices and features. The event entitled "Advancing the new era of work with Copilot" will start at 9AM Pacific/12PM Eastern time that date. Microsoft promises to unveil "the latest in scaling AI in your environment with Copilot, Windows and Surface," but it has shared no other details on what its announcements could be. As Windows Central had previously reported, the company is expected to launch the Surface Pro 10 and Surface Laptop 6 on March 21. They're apparently slated to be Microsoft's first AI PCs that will be equipped with the new Intel Core Ultra or Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite processors.

AI Monday Berlin – An event for AI explorers

#artificialintelligence

The 2nd AI Monday Berlin took place where it once all began: The Office Club Berlin was also the location of the GEO Monday back in the early 2000er years. This time we had Christopher Kränzler talking about how Lengoo leveraged AI, Dr. Daniel Feser reporting about his study "Artificial Intelligence in Berlin/ Brandenburg", Bastian C. Külzer from LEVERTON talking about "AI & the Struggle with unstructured Documents" and rounded up by Asaf Birnhack of Curious.AI showing his application around anonymising real time surveillance videos.
