Agent Teaming in Mixed-Motive Situations – an AAAI Fall symposium
Professor Subbarao Khambhampati's (Arizona State University) keynote discussed the dual nature of mental modeling in cooperation and competition. The importance of obfuscatory behavior, controlled observability planning, and the use of explanations for model reconciliation was emphasized, particularly regarding trust-building in human-robot interactions. Professor Gita Sukthankar's (University of Central Florida) talk focused on challenges in teamwork, using a case study on software engineering teams. Innovative techniques for distinguishing effective teams from ineffective ones were explored, setting the stage for discussions on the complexities of mixed-motive scenarios. Dr Marc Steinberg (Office of Naval Research) moderated an interactive discussion exploring research challenges in mixed-motive teams, including modeling humans, experimental setups, and measuring and assessing mixed-motive situations.
Assured and Trustworthy Human-centered AI – a AAAI Fall symposium
The Assured and Trustworthy Human-centered AI (ATHAI) symposium was held as part of the AAAI Fall Symposium Series in Arlington, VA from October 25-27, 2023. The symposium brought together three groups of stakeholders from industry, academia, and government to discuss issues related to AI assurance in different domains ranging from healthcare to defense. The symposium drew over 50 participants and consisted of a combination of invited keynote speakers, spotlight talks, and interactive panel discussions. On Day 1, the symposium kicked off with a keynote by Professor Missy Cummings (George Mason University) titled "Developing Trustworthy AI: Lessons Learned from Self-driving Cars". Missy shared important lessons learned from her time at the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and interacting with the autonomous vehicle industry.

AAAI Fall Symposium: Patrícia Alves-Oliveira on human-robot interaction design
The AAAI Fall Symposium Series took place in Arlington, USA, and comprised seven different symposia. One of these, the tenth Artificial Intelligence for Human-Robot Interaction (AI-HRI) symposium was run as a hybrid in-person/online event, and we tuned in to the opening keynote, which was given by Patrícia Alves-Oliveira. As a psychology student, Patrícia's dream was to become a therapist. However, an internship, where she encountered a robot for the first time, inspired her to change her plans, and she decided to go into the field of human-robot interaction. Following a PhD in the field, she worked as a postdoc, before heading to industry as a designer in the Amazon Astro robot team.

Population Wide Attitude Diffusion in Community Structured Graphs
Lakkaraju, Kiran (Sandia National Labs) | Speed, Ann (Sandia National Labs)
Understanding population wide attitude change is an important step to understanding the behavior of societies. In this talk, we will study population wide attitude change through the use of computational models. Using a model based on parallel constraint satisfaction, we will show how varying parameters, such as cognitive effort, and community structure, can impact attitude change in populations.

The AAAI Fall Symposium on Meta-Cognitive Educational - What are the theoretical foundations and how are they articulated Systems: One Step Forward is the second edition of the successful in CBLEs? MCES implemented as CBLEs are designed to interact with - What are the main aspects of metacognition, selfregulation users, and support their learning and decision-making processes. Can MCES actually foster they need to plan their learning activities, to adapt their learners to be self-regulating agents? How can a MCES learning strategies to meet learning goals, become aware of be autonomous and increase its knowledge to match the changing task conditions, and the dynamic aspects of the learners evolving skills and knowledge? MCES may not be embodied, prior to, during, and after they have been involved in but does it help if they act as intentional agents? the learning environment.
