IBM Provides Cloud-Based Machine Learning Platform

According to Tech Republic, IBM plans to bring soon some of the core machine learning technology from IBM Watson to the private cloud and mainframes, as the company announced on Wednesday, Feb. 15. IBM described IBM Machine Learning in a press release as a platform that will facilitate creating, training and deploying high volume of analytic models in the private cloud. IBM Machine Learning is leveraging core Watson technologies in order to accelerate the adoption of machine learning, according to the statement of Rob Thomas, general manager for IBM Analytics, published in the press release. According to the release, IBM Machine Learning can help create and train operational analytic models by using any popular machine learning framework, any language and any transactional data type.


Microsoft Takes Another Crack at Health Care, This Time With Cloud, AI and Chatbots

A new initiative called Healthcare NExT will combine work from existing industry players and Microsoft's Research and AI units to help doctors reduce data entry tasks, triage sick patients more efficiently and ease outpatient care. The University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and Microsoft want to use things like speech and natural language recognition technology to replace manual data entry by doctors, Lee said. This time, Microsoft aims to support existing health-care organizations with cloud services and AI software, rather than launch company-branded products that may compete with existing industry players, he said. "We know health care will become more patient-focused, more cloud-based and that AI will make health care more data-driven.


IBM and Indiegogo are bringing Watson's smarts to the masses

That's about to change thanks to a new partnership from IBM, Indiegogo and Arrow Electronics that promises to give independent developers and entrepreneurs access to those same machine learning tools. According to IBM, any qualified Indiegogo project will have free access to the Watson IoT platform and cloud services for an unlimited amount of time. The Watson partnership also expands on Arrow's existing "Arrow Certified" program which helps make Indiegogo projects become reality much faster by offering up to $500,000 in benefits ranging from raw parts and materials to financing support. So far, IBM and Arrow's support has already helped bring two well-received Indiegogo products to market: Fitly's Smart Plate and PlayDate's connected pet ball.
