Antigravity A1 drone review: FPV flying unlike anything else

Engadget

Unfortunately, there are some usability bumps. The Antigravity A1 is what happens when Insta360's 360-degree cameras are given wings and flying feels like a video game. Spinning out as its own brand, Antigravity's debut drone is a big swing: a three-piece set with a drone that captures 8K 360-degree video, FPV goggles and a motion controller. Challenging the dominance of DJI's (many!) consumer drones is a big ask. Antigravity's approach is to play to its strengths in 360-degree video and smartphone-first editing.

A review on Machine Learning based User-Centric Multimedia Streaming Techniques

arXiv.org Artificial Intelligence

The multimedia content and streaming are a major means of information exchange in the modern era and there is an increasing demand for such services. This coupled with the advancement of future wireless networks B5G/6G and the proliferation of intelligent handheld mobile devices, has facilitated the availability of multimedia content to heterogeneous mobile users. Apart from the conventional video, the 360$^o$ videos have gained popularity with the emerging virtual reality applications. All formats of videos (conventional and 360$^o$) undergo processing, compression, and transmission across dynamic wireless channels with restricted bandwidth to facilitate the streaming services. This causes video impairments, leading to quality degradation and poses challenges in delivering good Quality-of-Experience (QoE) to the viewers. The QoE is a prominent subjective quality measure to assess multimedia services. This requires end-to-end QoE evaluation. Efficient multimedia streaming techniques can improve the service quality while dealing with dynamic network and end-user challenges. A paradigm shift in user-centric multimedia services is envisioned with a focus on Machine Learning (ML) based QoE modeling and streaming strategies. This survey paper presents a comprehensive overview of the overall and continuous, time varying QoE modeling for the purpose of QoE management in multimedia services. It also examines the recent research on intelligent and adaptive multimedia streaming strategies, with a special emphasis on ML based techniques for video (conventional and 360$^o$) streaming. This paper discusses the overall and continuous QoE modeling to optimize the end-user viewing experience, efficient video streaming with a focus on user-centric strategies, associated datasets for modeling and streaming, along with existing shortcoming and open challenges.

Heterogeneous 360 Degree Videos in Metaverse: Differentiated Reinforcement Learning Approaches

arXiv.org Artificial Intelligence

Advanced video technologies are driving the development of the futuristic Metaverse, which aims to connect users from anywhere and anytime. As such, the use cases for users will be much more diverse, leading to a mix of 360-degree videos with two types: non-VR and VR 360-degree videos. This paper presents a novel Quality of Service model for heterogeneous 360-degree videos with different requirements for frame rates and cybersickness. We propose a frame-slotted structure and conduct frame-wise optimization using self-designed differentiated deep reinforcement learning algorithms. Specifically, we design two structures, Separate Input Differentiated Output (SIDO) and Merged Input Differentiated Output (MIDO), for this heterogeneous scenario. We also conduct comprehensive experiments to demonstrate their effectiveness.

CES 2018: Samsung Exynos 9810 Chip Supports UHD Resolution, 360-Degree Videos

International Business Times

Samsung Electronics is expected to unveil its highly anticipated Galaxy S9 flagship phone next month. Ahead of its launch, the South Korean tech giant has announced its new Exynos 9 Series 9810 processor, which features a powerful custom CPU, very fast gigabit LTE modem and sophisticated deep learning capabilities. Samsung's latest premium application processor is so advanced that it has already been selected as a CES 2018 Innovation Awards Honoree in the Embedded Technologies product category ahead of the big Las Vegas event next week. Built on the 10nm process, the Exynos 9810 is more advanced than its predecessors in more ways than one. The Exynos 9810 is designed to carry out seamless multi-tasking.

AI is Already Replacing VR's Hottest Entry Level Job - VRScout

#artificialintelligence

The virtual reality industry is exploding. Practically everywhere you look, VR is flooding into the mainstream consciousness at an increasingly rapid rate. Huge sums of money are being pumped in for content creation, and it's all thanks to 360-degree video. Let's be honest, we would not have the level of public interest in VR that we have now without easily accessible content. Reaching millions of individuals meant that the processing capabilities to power an experience needed to be'dumbed down.'

Intel to sponsor Olympics to showcase VR, 360-degree video, AI and drone technologies

The Japan Times

NEW YORK โ€“ Intel Corp. will sponsor the Olympics through 2024 in the company's latest bid to show off its technology through high-profile sports events. The chipmaker said it will partner with the International Olympic Committee to use Intel's technology, such as virtual reality, 360-degree video, artificial intelligence and drones, to enhance the Olympic Games. Intel is signing on at a time when global interest in the Olympics is waning. Television ratings have fallen, and cities have dropped out of the running to host the games as costs spiral. Yet for Intel, the sponsorship is part of a broad push into sports after it launched a group to explore such deals last fall, seeking to highlight initiatives other than its main computer processor business.

See SpaceX's Rocket Landing On A Drone Ship in 360-Degree Video

Popular Science

Remember earlier this month when SpaceX succeeded in landing its Falcon 9 rocket first-stage booster on a drone ship out in the Atlantic for the first time ever (and the first time ever by any private company)? Now the company has released a new 360-degree video of the historic landing on YouTube. Personally, I still prefer the flat video captured from afar.

GoPro unveils new VR video platform and pricing for 360-degree Omni camera rig

The Independent - Tech

Nasa has announced that it has found evidence of flowing water on Mars. Scientists have long speculated that Recurring Slope Lineae -- or dark patches -- on Mars were made up of briny water but the new findings prove that those patches are caused by liquid water, which it has established by finding hydrated salts. Several hundred camped outside the London store in Covent Garden. The 6s will have new features like a vastly improved camera and a pressure-sensitive "3D Touch" display
