US trade restriction on Nvidia sends markets tumbling again
US stocks have fallen further after Donald Trump imposed a new trade restriction on the chip designer Nvidia, rattling investors and triggering a sell-off across the semiconductor industry. The S&P 500 index dropped by about 1.3% in early trading, with the tech-heavy Nasdaq index down 2.1%. The Dow Jones fell 0.6%. Nvidia, the Californian company at the heart of the revolution in artificial intelligence technology, lost billions of dollars from its market value at the opening bell, with its shares down about 6%. The sell-off, which has spread to semiconductor makers in Asia and Europe, comes after Nvidia said the Trump administration had restricted the sale of its H20 chip in China by means of new licence requirements.

Children are developing 'Fortnite accents' after spending too much time playing the video game, experts warn
With over 650 million registered players, Fortnite is without a doubt one of the most popular video games in the world. Now, experts have warned that some children are spending so much time playing the game that they're developing'Fortnite accents'. The Fortnite accent is typically high-pitched and fast-faced, according to the experts at Preply. It also often features an upward inflection at the end of each sentence, almost as if everything is being said in the tone of a question. 'Because of the game's young player base, it mimics the sound of an overly excited or frustrated child's voice,' Preply explained.
New to streaming: How to watch Companion at home
Not every AI-based narrative is the same, and Companion is here to prove it. Full of twists and plenty of gruesome violence, the deranged thriller is coming to the small screen this spring after an impressive box office run. The movie stars Sophie Thatcher, Jack Quaid, Lukas Gage, Megan Suri, Harvey Guillรฉn, and Rupert Friend. As our reviewer said before its release, Companion "takes its riveting premise into a rich terrain of twisted turns embedded with smart and sick humor," turning it more into a dark comedy than your typical thriller. If you missed Companion in theaters, we have good news: You can start streaming the sci-fi thriller at home beginning April 18 on Max.
Windows 11's Snipping Tool tests instant on-screen text extraction feature
According to yesterday's Windows Insider blog post, Microsoft is currently testing a new version of the Snipping Tool in Windows 11, which is now available to Windows Insiders on both Canary and Dev Channels. This new version (11.2503.27.0) is getting built-in Text Extraction. Text Extraction is a feature that uses OCR to "extract" text from an image and convert it into, well, text. Instead of typing up entire paragraphs or pages by hand, you can simply let the Snipping Tool handle it--and it's much faster than doing it by hand. The Snipping Tool has actually had Text Extraction for a while now, but you had to first snap a screenshot and then open the screenshot for editing within the Snipping Tool before you could access the Text Extraction feature.
Adapting for AI's reasoning era
As AI systems that learn by mimicking the mechanisms of the human brain continue to advance, we're witnessing an evolution in models from rote regurgitation to genuine reasoning. This capability marks a new chapter in the evolution of AI--and what enterprises can gain from it. But in order to tap into this enormous potential, organizations will need to ensure they have the right infrastructure and computational resources to support the advancing technology. "Reasoning models are qualitatively different than earlier LLMs," says Prabhat Ram, partner AI/HPC architect at Microsoft, noting that these models can explore different hypotheses, assess if answers are consistently correct, and adjust their approach accordingly. "They essentially create an internal representation of a decision tree based on the training data they've been exposed to, and explore which solution might be the best."
The best AI art app for AMD PC owners just added text-to-video
Amuse, the free AI art collaboration with TensorStack that can generate original AI art, editing, and even video using your own PC, has been updated with new features -- video generation! The important thing about Amuse, however, is that it also provides access to generative AI models for all processors, not just AMD. If you have an Intel Core PC with an Nvidia discrete GPU, that's fine -- download the latest Amuse 3.0 version and try its range of capabilities for yourself. Amuse debuted in 2024 as a collaboration between AMD and TensorStack. In a way, Amuse is AMD's answer to Intel's AI Playground, which combines AI art generation with video and integrated LLM chatbots (though video creation didn't work on AI Playground when I tried it recently).
