There's a new AI in town threatening to take over your territory. The latest version of Perplexity's iPhone app introduces a new voice assistant designed to perform a variety of tasks. Many of these tasks are typically reserved for Siri, as they are not only interactive but can also access key information on your phone. Just like Siri, you can ask Perplexity's voice assistant to set a reminder, schedule a calendar event, play a song from Apple Music, open a podcast, and get directions via Apple Maps. Simply tell it to perform any of these tasks, and Perplexity will interact with the appropriate app or feature and display the results.

Google has been paying Samsung tons of cash every month to pre-install the AI app Gemini on its smartphones, according to a report by Bloomberg . This information comes to us as part of a pre-existing antitrust case against Google. Peter Fitzgerald, Google's VP of platforms and device partnerships, testified in federal court that it began paying Samsung for this service back in January. The pair of companies have a contract that's set to run at least two years. Fitzgerald told Judge Amit Metha, who is overseeing the case, that Google provides Samsung with both fixed monthly payments and a percentage of revenue earned from advertisers within the Gemini app.

Google's Gemini Live launched for all Android users over the weekend. That means far more folks now have access to the AI assistant's tool that lets users live-share a video or screen. The feature rolled out last month to Pixel 9, Galaxy S25, and Gemini Advanced subscribers before now going wide to all Android users, Android Central reported. The move was expected: Google noted earlier this month that the feature was rolling out to all Android users with the Gemini app. The idea behind the tool is that the AI assistant sees what you see, either via your camera or on your screen.

But not to be outdone, rival tech giant Google has released its own handset at an'unbeatable' price – the Pixel 9a. James Cameron's stance on artificial intelligence has evolved over the past few years, and he feels Hollywood needs to embrace it in a few different ways. Cameron joined the board of directors for Stability AI last year, explaining his decision on the "Boz to the Future" podcast last week. "The goal was to understand the space, to understand what's on the minds of the developers," he said. How much resources you have to throw at it to create a new model that does a purpose-built thing, and my goal was to try to integrate it into a VFX workflow." He continued by saying the shift to AI is a necessary one. James Cameron wants Hollywood to implement AI more for big-budget films. WHAT IS ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE (AI)? While new Apple iPhone "leaks" arrive on a near-weekly basis, evidence is growing that a folding iPhone is coming soon, now bolstered by new reports about its camera and use of Touch ID. Via 9To5Mac, Korean blog yeux1122, which covers chatter from Chinese social media site Weibo, reported that Apple's foldable iPhone will have a punch-hole camera design on its external display. The blog also shared that the internal display will be 7.76 inches with a 2713 x 1920p resolution, and the external display will be 5.49 inches with a 2088 x 1422p resolution. This is similar to the design of Samsung's flagship foldable, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6, and the Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold. The punch-hole camera on the external display strengthens last month's report from Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who said the foldable iPhone will use a Touch ID side button like the iPad Air instead of Face ID, which is what every iPhone since the iPhone X has used.

Google rolled out live video and screen sharing abilities for Gemini Live in March, and now all Android users can play with the tools for free. Announced during Mobile World Congress (MWC) last month, Google's ChatGPT Voice Mode competitor now has the ability to "see" -- meaning you can use your smartphone camera or share your screen to ask Gemini Live real-time questions about your immediate surrounds or current website during your chats. At launch in March, the continuous conversational AI's new tool was only available to paying Gemini Advanced subscribers on Pixel 9 and Samsung Galaxy S25 devices. But on Wednesday, Google announced it's now free to all Android users with the Gemini app installed. "We've been hearing great feedback on Gemini Live with camera and screen share, so we decided to bring it to more people," the official Google Gemini App account posted on X. "Starting today and over the coming weeks, we're rolling it out to all Android users with the Gemini app."
