iPad (2025) with A16 review: No Apple Intelligence, no problem

Engadget

When it debuted in 2022, Apple's 10th-generation iPad sat in something of a no-man's land, bringing a long-overdue design revamp at an inflated price. A year and a half later, Apple gave the slate a 100 price cut and immediately turned it into a much more enticing value. Now, the company has quietly released a follow-up. Dubbed the iPad (A16), the new tablet is a far less dramatic update, one with welcome performance improvements that otherwise refuses to rock the boat. It even lacks the Apple Intelligence features Apple has endlessly promoted over the past year.

We owe the Trump admin a debt of gratitude for the Signal group chat leak

Al Jazeera

Sometimes journalists befuddle me, and I'm a journalist – although my touchy detractors would dispute that. Perhaps like you, I have been watching – with a healthy dose of bemusement and amusement – the outrage-du-jour dominate the latest 24-hour "news cycle" in North America and beyond. Such is the squirrel-like attention span of many of my perpetually outraged colleagues, that today's outrage usually has a short life expectancy since another outrage inevitably comes along tomorrow. But the outrage seizing Washington, DC – the capital of outrage – appears poised to consume the Beltway press corps for more than a day or two. When that happens, the outrage tends to evolve into a four-alarm scandal which journalists crave because it often translates into a big, ego-boosting award for the lucky scribe who triggered the original outrage.

Optimizing Multi-DNN Inference on Mobile Devices through Heterogeneous Processor Co-Execution

arXiv.org Artificial Intelligence

Abstract--Deep Neural Networks (DNNs) are increasingly deployed across diverse industries, driving a growing demand to enable their capabilities on mobile devices. However, existing mobile inference frameworks are often rely on a single processor to handle each model's inference, limiting hardware utilization and leading to suboptimal performance and energy efficiency . Expanding DNNs accessibility on mobile platforms requires more adaptive and resource-efficient solutions to meet increasing computational demands without compromising device functionality . Nevertheless, parallel inference of multiple DNNs on heterogeneous processors remains a significant challenge. Several works have explored partitioning DNN operations into subgraphs to enable parallel execution across heterogeneous processors. However, these approaches typically generate excessive subgraphs based solely on hardware compatibility, increasing scheduling complexity and memory management overhead. T o address these limitations, we propose an Advanced Multi-DNN Model Scheduling (ADMS) strategy that optimizes multi-DNN inference across heterogeneous processors on mobile devices. ADMS constructs an optimal subgraph partitioning strategy offline, considering both hardware support of operations and scheduling granularity, while employing a processor-state-aware scheduling algorithm that dynamically balances workloads based on real-time operational conditions. This ensures efficient workload distribution and maximizes the utilization of available processors. Experimental results show that, compared to vanilla inference frameworks, ADMS reduced multi-DNN inference latency by 4.04 T o reduce interaction latency and lower server-side computing costs, an increasing number of applications are shifting inference tasks to mobile devices. In many real-world scenarios, multiple independent or related DNN models run concurrently on mobile devices. For instance, in the smart agriculture scenario, farmers capture video frames using smartphone camera and perform real-time parallel inference with multiple DNN models. These models include crop identification [5], pest and disease detection [6], plant health assessment [7], and soil quality analysis [8]. Gao, X. Samsung Electronics co-CEO Han Jong-hee dies of heart attack at 63

The Guardian

South Korean tech giant Samsung Electronics said on Tuesday that its co-chief executive officer Han Jong-hee has died due to cardiac arrest. Han was in charge of Samsung's consumer electronics and mobile devices division, while co-CEO Jun Young-hyun oversees the chip business of South Korea's biggest company. Han passed away at a hospital on Tuesday while being treated for cardiac arrest, a company spokesperson said, adding that a successor had not yet been decided. The South Korean firm has been suffering from weak earnings and sagging share prices in recent quarters after falling behind rivals in advanced memory chips and contract chip manufacturing, which have enjoyed strong demand from artificial intelligence projects. Samsung has also ceded its smartphone market crown to Apple.

MambaSCI: Efficient Mamba-UNet for Quad-Bayer Patterned Video Snapshot Compressive Imaging

Neural Information Processing Systems

Color video snapshot compressive imaging (SCI) employs computational imaging techniques to capture multiple sequential video frames in a single Bayer-patterned measurement. With the increasing popularity of quad-Bayer pattern in mainstream smartphone cameras for capturing high-resolution videos, mobile photography has become more accessible to a wider audience. However, existing color video SCI reconstruction algorithms are designed based on the traditional Bayer pattern. When applied to videos captured by quad-Bayer cameras, these algorithms often result in color distortion and ineffective demosaicing, rendering them impractical for primary equipment. To address this challenge, we propose the MambaSCI method, which leverages the Mamba and UNet architectures for efficient reconstruction of quad-Bayer patterned color video SCI.
