A Ukrainian Family's Three Years of War
One morning last month, while I was waiting at a bus stop on the western edge of the western Ukrainian city of Lviv, I struck up a conversation with a man in his early forties named Mykola Hryhoryan. Across from the bus stop was a bombed-out museum. I asked if he knew what had happened to it. "It was hit by a Russian drone," he said. Mykola was wearing jeans and a black parka with the hood pulled over his head. He told me that he was a soldier.

Russia launches air attacks against Ukraine's western Lviv city
The western Ukrainian city of Lviv was rocked by early morning explosions as air defences engaged in stopping waves of Russian air attacks, local officials said. The city's mayor, Andriy Sadoviy, wrote on the Telegram messaging app early on Tuesday that "air defences are operating in our region", and warned residents to seek shelter. Ukraine's Air Force wrote on Telegram that "the threat of Shahed [Iranian-made drones] remains in the Lviv region. Western Ukraine came under an air raid alert starting at about 00:00 GMT. According to reports, several waves of drones attempted to hit targets in Lviv city starting at about 01:30 GMT with numerous explosions heard as air defences intercepted the incoming unmanned aerial vehicles. Sadoviy later reported that a fire at an industrial warehouse had broken out and emergency services were tackling the blaze. Initial reports were of one person injured, he said. "So far, only one person has been injured in the attack," the mayor said on Telegram, adding that a man in his mid-20s was found under the rubble of a warehouse and transported to hospital. The scale of the attack and full extent of the damage were not immediately known. There was no immediate comment from Russia. The head of the Lviv region's military administration, Maksym Kozytskyi, said that two people, a man and a woman, were rescued from beneath rubble in the city. 'Punishment From Above': Hobby Pilots Build Ukraine's Drone Fleet
At a secret location in the Ukraine city of Lviv, the windows taped up to ward off unwanted attention, underground hobbyists improvise deadly drones bound for the front line of the war against Russia. On a cluttered table the x-shaped frame of one drone stands among bundles of plastic propellers and sachets of minuscule screws. Soon it will take flight with its payload: a wine bottle-sized anti-tank grenade designed to plunge on Russian armour. Two other drones are already affixed with quad propellers, their squat bodies gaping with miniature bomb bays to rain explosives on Russian infantry challenging Ukrainian defenders to the north and east. One more -- the shape of a stealth bomber, the size of a bird of prey -- will conduct reconnaissance missions for artillery squads, spotting targets and marking them for incoming fire.
Ukraine to produce Turkish armed drones: Minister
Ukraine said it will build a factory to produce Turkish armed drones that Kyiv previously bought to use against pro-Russian separatists in the east, a deal that might upset Kyiv's adversary Moscow. "A land plot on which the factory will be built has already been chosen," Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said at a news conference on Thursday with Turkish counterpart Mevlut Cavusoglu in the western Ukrainian city of Lviv. "There were a number of obstacles to the implementation [of this project] but all of them have been removed," he added, without providing further details. Pleased to welcome my Turkish colleague and friend @MevlutCavusoglu in Lviv and expand our diplomatic geography. Cavusoglu did not speak specifically about the subject but stressed that Kyiv and Ankara were "in the process of strengthening their relations in many sectors", including defence.
