IC3K 2025 (17th International Joint Conference on Knowledge Discovery, Knowledge Engineering and Knowledge Management) received 163 paper submissions from 40 countries. To evaluate each submission, a double-blind paper review was performed by the Program Committee. After a stringent selection process, 31 papers were published and presented as full papers, i.e. completed work (12 pages/25' oral presentation), 81 papers were accepted as short papers (54 as oral presentation). The Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence's 2025 Fall Symposium Series was held November 6-8, 2025, at the Westin Arlington Gateway in Arlington, Virginia. There were six symposia in the program: AI for Social Good: Emerging Methods, Measures, Data, and Ethics; AI Trustworthiness and Risk Assessment for Challenged Contexts; Engineering Safety-Critical AI Systems; First AAAI Symposium on Quantum Information and Machine Learning: Bridging Quantum Computing and Artificial Intelligence; Safe, Ethical, Certified, Uncertainty-aware, Robust, and Explainable AI for Health; and Unifying Representations for Robot Application Development. This report contains summaries of the symposia, which were submitted by most, but not all, of the symposium organizers. AI has demonstrated transformative potential across sectors such as aging, combating information manipulation, disaster response, education, environmental sustainability, government, healthcare, social care, transportation, and urban planning. Yet, the systematic development of AI For Social Good remains fragmented across those many research communities, with limited convergence around effective methodologies, equitable impact measurement, or access to important data and long-term engagement with targeted populations. The main objective for this symposium was to convene across disciplines and engage researchers, practitioners, and policymakers, with a particular focus on finding methods, measures and data that could be used in multiple settings. There were roughly 30 participants.

The AI for Resilient Communities symposium explores the intersection of artificial intelligence, resilience, and adaptive technologies, highlighting AI's transformative role in helping communities navigate environmental, economic, and social uncertainties. As societies face escalating challenges--from climate crises to shifting economic landscapes--the need for resilient, adaptive systems has never been more critical. This symposium is designed to foster innovation and dialogue around creating robust communities that can withstand and adapt to crises, evolving into stronger and more resilient entities over time.

There were eight symposia in the spring program: AI for Engineering and Scientific Discoveries, AI for Health Symposium: Leveraging Artificial Intelligence to Revolutionize Healthcare, Current and Future Varieties of Human-AI Collaboration, GenAI@Edge: Empowering Generative AI at the Edge, Human-Compatible AI for Well-being: Harnessing Potential of GenAI for AI-Powered Science, Machine Learning and Knowledge Engineering for Trustworthy Multimodal and Generative AI, Symposium on Child-AI Interaction in the Era of Foundation Models, Towards Agentic AI for Science: Hypothesis Generation, Comprehension, Quantification, and Validation. This report contains summaries of the workshops, which were submitted by some, but not all, of the workshop chairs. This symposium aims to advance and diversify the application of AI in emerging engineering and scientific discovery domains. Inspired by progress in large language models, generative AI, and AI-assisted scientific computing, we seek to foster new collaborations between industry and academia to tackle challenging problems in materials, manufacturing, and life sciences. We also plan to explore new directions in human-machine interaction for accelerating knowledge discovery and address related ethical considerations. Through invited speakers, panel discussions, and contributions from researchers with cross-disciplinary expertise, we hoped to cultivate partnerships that drive transformative advances in both AI and scientific research. No formal report was filed by the organizers for this symposium.


Reports of the Workshops Held at the 2025 AAAI Conference on Artificial Intelligence

The Workshop Program of the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence's 39th Conference on Artificial Intelligence (AAAI-25) was held in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on February 25 - March 4, 2025. TIKA is envisioned to create an open knowledge resource and serve as a hub for research, education and training on knowledge representation and knowledge engineering. Over 50 AI researchers convened at the workshop over two days. The discussions focused on different aspects of creating an open knowledge resource including foundational knowledge, automated reasoning, knowledge curation, education on knowledge axiomatization, and evaluation of outcomes. The opening discussion confirmed that the idea of curated knowledge, that is, knowledge captured in an expressive formal language that can be explicitly examined and verified by humans, is compelling. The Twenty-First International Conference on Intelligent Environments (IE 2025): A Report

Intelligent Environments are populated with numerous devices and have multiple occupants. They inherently exhibit increasingly intelligent behavior, support consistent functionality and human-centric operation (humans, as opposed to mere users, have increased requirements from a system, including, for example, intuitive interaction, protection of privacy, fault-tolerance, etc.), and provide optimized resource usage. The development of Intelligent Environments is considered the first and primary step towards the realization of the Ambient Intelligence vision and requires input from research and contributions from several scientific and engineering disciplines, including computer science, software engineering, artificial intelligence, architecture, social sciences, art and design. The series of IE conferences has been consistently creating a unique blend of researchers in these disciplines, fostering cross-disciplinary discussions, debate and collaborations. The 21st International Conference on Intelligent Environments was held on June 23–26, 2025, in Darmstadt (Germany).

The Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence's 2024 Fall Symposium Series was held at Westin Arlington Gateway, Arlington, Virginia, November 7-9, 2024. There were seven symposia in the fall program: AI Trustworthiness and Risk Assessment for Challenging Contexts (ATRACC), Artificial Intelligence for Aging in Place, Integrated Approaches to Computational Scientific Discovery, Large Language Models for Knowledge Graph and Ontology Engineering (LLMs for KG and OE), Machine Intelligence for Equitable Global Health (MI4EGH), Unifying Representations for Robot Application Development, Using AI to Build Secure and Resilient Agricultural Systems: Leveraging AI to mitigate Cyber, Climatic and Economic Threats in Food, Agricultural, and Water (FAW) Systems. This report contains summaries of the workshops, which were submitted by some, but not all, of the workshop chairs. The rapid embrace of AI-based critical systems introduces new dimensions of errors that induce increased levels of risk, limiting trustworthiness. Thus, AI-based critical systems must be assessed across many dimensions by different parties (researchers, developers, regulators, customers, insurance companies, end-users, etc.) for different reasons. Assessment of trustworthiness should be made at both the full system level and at the level of individual AI components. The focus of this symposium was on AI trustworthiness broadly and methods that help provide bounds for fairness, reproducibility, reliability, and accountability in the context of quantifying AI-system risk, spanning the entire AI lifecycle from theoretical research formulations all the way to system implementation, deployment, and operation. This first AAAI symposium on AI Trustworthiness and Risk Assessment in Challenging Contexts was triggered by two initiatives on responsible and trustworthy AI that came together thanks to encouragement given by AAAI: an international community (mostly European and Asia-South Pacific) around AI trustworthiness assessment for critical systems, already gathered at the AITA SSS Symposium in 2023; and a US-based community around University of West Florida, gathered about the question of AI risk assessment in challenging contexts e.g., for security or defense applications.
