The Rise of the Expert Company: How Visionary Companies Are Using Artificial Intelligence to Achieve Higher Productivity and Profits
Feigenbaum, E. A. | McCorduck, P. | Nii, H. P.
"This is a popular interpretation of expert systems - computer models providing artificial intelligence to managers and businessmen - which are transforming business in the 1980s. The book gives an inside view of many international companies such as Canon, Westinghouse, IBM, Du Pont and others." New York: Times Books.
Forecasting and Assessing the Impact of Artificial Intelligence on Society
At the present stage of research in artificial intelligence , machines are stil l remote from achieving a level of intelligence comparable in complexity to human thought. As computer applications become more sophisticated, however, and thus more influential in human affairs , it becomes increasingly important to understand both the capabilities and limitations of machine Intelligence and its potential impact on society. To this end, the artificial intelligence field was examined in a systematic manner. The study was divided into two parts : (1) Delineation of areas of artificial intelligence, and postulatio " of hypothetical products resulting from progress in the field , and (2) A judgmental portion, which involved applications and implications of the products to society . For the latter purpose, a Delphi study was conducted among experts in the artificial intelligence field to solicit their opinion concerning prototype and commercial dates for the products, and the possibility and desirability of their applications and implications .In IJCAI-73: THIRD INTERNATIONAL JOINT CONFERENCE ON ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE, 20-23 August 1973, Stanford University Stanford, California.
Challenge to Artificial Intelligence: Programming Problems to be Solved
This paper is in the nature of a challenge to artificial intelligence experts. It suggests that the techniques of artificial intelligence should be applied to some realistic problems which exist in the programming and data processing fields. After a brief review of the little related existing work which has been done, the characteristics of programming problems which make them suitable for the application of artificial intelligence techniques are given. Specific illustrations of problems are provided under the broadcategories of data structure and organization, program structure and organization, improvements and corrections of programs, and language. In IJCAI-71: INTERNATIONAL JOINT CONFERENCE ON ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE.
