Welcome to Career Day

The New Yorker

I'm Charlotte's mom, and I'm here to tell you about my job. My typical day begins with me waking up in a cold sweat around 3 Instead of closing my eyes and going back to sleep, as ten out of ten doctors would recommend, I peel my phone off my sweaty cheek and dive straight into my work e-mail. This insures that I'll start the day early since I'm all but guaranteed to read something that will fill me with a powerful rage. This morning, for example, I encountered an e-mail where my boss, Steve, put me in the "cc" line instead of the "to" line, even though I'm the person spearheading this project. Like, what is he doing?
