Will ChatGPT make coding tests for engineers obsolete?

#artificialintelligence

Check out all the on-demand sessions from the Intelligent Security Summit here. Automated testing for software engineering job candidates is widely used today, with many companies relying on such techniques to identify the most talented programmers. But these tests are not without their faults, and the burgeoning field of ChatGPT may add further caution to their use. Although it is early, there are grounds for concern. Automated coding tests that screen developers for skills could be subject to AI-driven manipulation.

Even if you aren't into artificial intelligence, pay attention, because this one is a big deal. The tool, from a power player in artificial intelligence called OpenAI, lets you type natural-language prompts. ChatGPT then offers conversational, if somewhat stilted, responses. The bot remembers the thread of your dialogue, using previous questions and answers to inform its next responses. It derives its answers from huge volumes of information on the internet. ChatGPT is a big deal. The tool seems pretty knowledgeable in areas where there's good training data for it to learn from.

The artificial intelligence–powered chatbot--which can generate essays and articles with a simple prompt, have natural-sounding conversations, debug computer code, write songs, and even draft Congressional floor speeches--has quickly become a phenomenon. Developed by the Microsoft-backed OpenAI, the computer program reportedly hit 100 million users in January alone and has been called an AI breakthrough. Its apparent prowess--in one study, it fooled respected scientists into believing its fake research paper abstracts--has left professional writers feeling nervous and spooked Google into urgently ramping up its own AI efforts.

Elon Musk, who co-founded firm behind ChatGPT, warns A.I. is 'one of the biggest risks' to civilization

#artificialintelligence

ChatGPT shows that artificial intelligence has gotten incredibly advanced -- and that it is something we should all be worried about, according to tech billionaire Elon Musk. "One of the biggest risks to the future of civilization is AI," Musk told attendees at the World Government Summit in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, shortly after mentioning the development of ChatGPT. "It's both positive or negative and has great, great promise, great capability," Musk said. But, he stressed that "with that comes great danger." The Tesla, SpaceX and Twitter boss was asked about how he sees technology developing 10 years from now.

Microsoft launches the new Bing, with ChatGPT built in • TechCrunch

#artificialintelligence

"It's a new day for search," Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella said today. For 13 years now, Microsoft has tried to get you to use Bing, but you didn't want to, so its global market share remains in the low single digits. Now, the company is pulling out all the stops in an effort to better compete with Google. Today, at a press event in Redmond, Washington, Microsoft announced its long-rumored integration of OpenAI's GPT-4 model into Bing, providing a ChatGPT-like experience within the search engine. The company is also launching a new version of its Edge browser today, with these new AI features built into the sidebar.

How should AI systems behave, and who should decide?

#artificialintelligence

We're clarifying how ChatGPT's behavior is shaped and our plans for improving that behavior, allowing more user customization, and getting more public input into our decision-making in these areas. OpenAI's mission is to ensure that artificial general intelligence (AGI)[1] benefits all of humanity. We therefore think a lot about the behavior of AI systems we build in the run-up to AGI, and the way in which that behavior is determined. Since our launch of ChatGPT, users have shared outputs that they consider politically biased, offensive, or otherwise objectionable. In many cases, we think that the concerns raised have been valid and have uncovered real limitations of our systems which we want to address.

What Parents Need to Know About ChatGPT and Bard

#artificialintelligence

By now you've probably heard of ChatGPT and more recently about Bard. It's shaping up to be quite the battle of the AI tech titans, and as parents we need to help ensure our kids aren't among the casualties. Microsoft announced a multi-year partnership with OpenAI who developed ChatGPT, and Google, not to be outdone, is rolling out a chatbot named Bard. As a dad who works with AI in my professional life, I know a thing or two about the challenges these cutting-edge tools can pose, especially to our kids. The good news is, with a little preparation and awareness, we can help our children navigate these challenges, of which there are many.
