Chatbait Is Taking Over the Internet
Hours deep into a recent migraine, I turned to ChatGPT for help. "How do I get my headache to stop?" The bot suggested that I drink water and pop a Tylenol--both of which I had already tried, and neither of which had helped. ChatGPT then made a tantalizing offer: "If you want, I can give a quick 5-minute routine right now to stop a headache No fear, the chatbot had a new plan: "If you want, I can give a '2-minute micro version' ' that works even if your headache is severe," the bot volunteered. Lately, chatbots seem to be using more sophisticated tactics to keep people talking. In some cases, like my request for headache tips, bots end their messages with prodding follow-up questions. In others, they proactively message users to coax them into conversation: After clicking through the profiles of 20 AI bots on Instagram, all of them DM'ed me first. Days later, my phone pinged: "bestie " wanted to chat. Maybe this approach to engagement sounds familiar. Clickbait is already everywhere online--whether it's sensationalist headlines (" The Shocking Fact About American History That 95 Percent of Harvard Graduates Get Wrong ") or exaggerated video thumbnails (see: " YouTube face "). Chatbots are now headed in a similar direction. As AI takes over the web, clickbait is giving way to chatbait. Some bots appear to be more guilty of chatbait than others. When I ditched ChatGPT and asked Google's Gemini for headache help, it offered a long list of advice, then paused without asking any follow-ups. Anthropic's Claude wanted to know whether my headache was tension-related, due to sinus pressure, or something else entirely--hardly a goading question. That's not to say that these other bots never respond with chatbait. Chatbots tend to be sycophantic: They often flatter and sweet-talk users in a way that encourages people to keep talking. But, in my experience, ChatGPT goes a step further, stringing users along with unrequited offers and provocative questions. When I told the chatbot I was thinking of getting a dog, it offered to make a " Dog Match Quiz " to help decide the perfect breed. Later, when I complimented ChatGPT's emoji use, it volunteered to make me "a single'signature combo' How could I decline that?
Nvidia to invest 100bn in OpenAI
US tech giant Nvidia will invest up to $100bn (ยฃ73bn) in OpenAI, the firm behind ChatGPT, the companies announced. Nvidia said it will supply high-performance chips needed for the processing power required by artificial intelligence (AI), of which OpenAI is a specialist. Described as a strategic partnership by Nvidia, it is the latest move by two high profile tech firms in the global AI race, where China is an emerging rival. The announcement comes after a series of high-profile investments by Nvidia, including a $5bn investment in Intel and a ยฃ2bn investment in the UK's AI sector. Nvidia said its latest investment will go towards growing data centres for OpenAI's next-generation AI infrastructure.

Chipmaker Nvidia will invest up to $100bn in OpenAI and provide it with data center chips, a tie-up between two of the highest-profile leaders in the global artificial intelligence (AI) race. The deal, announced on Monday, will see Nvidia start delivering chips as soon as late 2026 and will involve two separate but intertwined transactions, according to a person close to OpenAI. The first $10bn of Nvidia's investment in OpenAI, which was most recently valued at $500bn, will begin when the two companies reach a definitive agreement for OpenAI to purchase Nvidia chips. Nvidia did not respond to immediate requests for clarification about the deal.

Patients at a small number of clinics in Southern California run by the medical startup Akido Labs are spending relatively little time, or even no time at all, with their doctors. Instead, they see a medical assistant, who can lend a sympathetic ear but has limited clinical training. The job of formulating diagnoses and concocting a treatment plan is done by an LLM-based system called ScopeAI that transcribes and analyzes the dialogue between patient and assistant. A doctor then approves, or corrects, the AI system's recommendations. According to Akido's CEO, this approach allows doctors to see four to five times as many patients as they could previously. But experts aren't convinced that displacing so much of the cognitive work of medicine onto AI is the right way to remedy the doctor shortage.

"I'm worried these tools will erode my ability to make an independent diagnosis," a medical student said. In 2017, Matthew Williams, a thirtysomething software engineer with an athletic build and a bald head, went for a long bike ride in the hills of San Francisco. Afterward, at dinner with some friends, he ordered a hamburger, fries, and a milkshake. Midway through the meal, he felt so full that he had to ask someone to drive him home. That night, Williams awoke with a sharp pain in his abdomen that he worried was appendicitis. He went to a nearby emergency clinic, where doctors told him that he was probably constipated. They gave him some laxatives and sent him on his way. A few hours later, Williams's pain intensified. He vomited and felt as though his stomach might burst. A friend took him to a hospital, where a CT scan revealed cecal volvulus--a medical emergency in which part of the intestine twists in on itself, cutting off the digestive tract. The previous medical team had missed the condition, and may even have exacerbated it by giving him laxatives. Williams was rushed to the operating room, where surgeons removed about six feet of his intestines. After recovering from surgery, Williams began to experience severe diarrhea almost every time he ate. Doctors told him that his bowel just needed time to heal. "It got to the point where I couldn't go out, because I would constantly eat something that would make me sick," he said.

"Our focus is really on what we can do to pull the doctor out of the visit," says Akido's CTO. Imagine this: You've been feeling unwell, so you call up your doctor's office to make an appointment. At the appointment, you aren't rushed through describing your health concerns; instead, you have a full half hour to share your symptoms and worries and the exhaustive details of your health history with someone who listens attentively and asks thoughtful follow-up questions. You leave with a diagnosis, a treatment plan, and the sense that, for once, you've been able to discuss your health with the care that it merits. AI companies have stopped warning you that their chatbots aren't doctors Once cautious, OpenAI, Grok, and others will now dive into giving unverified medical advice with virtually no disclaimers. You might not have spoken to a doctor, or other licensed medical practitioner, at all.
See&Trek: Training-Free Spatial Prompting for Multimodal Large Language Model

We introduce SEE&TREK, the first training-free prompting framework tailored to enhance the spatial understanding of Multimodal Large Language Models (MLLMS) under vision-only constraints. While prior efforts have incorporated modalities like depth or point clouds to improve spatial reasoning, purely visualspatial understanding remains underexplored. SEE&TREK addresses this gap by focusing on two core principles: increasing visual diversity and motion reconstruction. For visual diversity, we conduct Maximum Semantic Richness Sampling, which employs an off-the-shell perception model to extract semantically rich keyframes that capture scene structure. For motion reconstruction, we simulate visual trajectories and encode relative spatial positions into keyframes to preserve both spatial relations and temporal coherence. Our method is training&GPU-free, requiring only a single forward pass, and can be seamlessly integrated into existing MLLM'S. Extensive experiments on the VSI-B ENCH and STI-B ENCH show that S EE &T REK consistently boosts various MLLM S performance across diverse spatial reasoning tasks with the most +3.5% improvement, offering a promising path toward stronger spatial intelligence.
