Brains vs Artificial Intelligence: AI takes on humans in poker rematch

#artificialintelligence

Can an AI beat the world's best players at poker? In 2015, the answer was no, but computer scientists from Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) have a new AI that's ready to step up to the table in a 20 day "Brains vs Artificial Intelligence" match at Rivers Casino in Pittsburgh. The AI โ€“ known as Libratus โ€“ is the successor to Claudico, the AI that lost in a similar tournament two years ago. Since then, AIs have increasingly been getting the upper hand over humans, with Google DeepMind managing to beat the human Go champion 4-1 back in March. Libratus has learned the rules of the game with over 15 million hours of computation.

Building a Deep Learning Model for Process Optimisation

@machinelearnbot

The objective of this paper is to present the process of building a Deep Learning Model for optimising the output for a Production Process from a Training sample using Weka Multilayer Perceptron. The scope is limited to implementation only and does not cover the theory behind Artificial Neural Networks. This work is the outcome of a comprehensive prototyping and proof-of-concept exercise conducted at Turing Point (http://www.turing-point.com/) a consulting company focused on providing genuine Enterprise Machine Learning solutions based on highly advanced techniques such as 3D discrete event simulation, deep learning and genetic algorithms. Predictive Analytics is the process of extracting information from the data for predicting future trends. There are a number of Machine Learning approaches available to model the behaviour.

Human Centric AI : Fujitsu Global

#artificialintelligence

AI is a core technology which enables many complex processes to be conducted independently of human judgment. Now, deep learning is often featured in the media. But it is not the whole story of AI, just an important piece of the puzzle. Our human cognition is continuously generated from complex interactions between our sensory organs, nervous system, brain and external environments. To achieve an AI, we have to replicate and bring together a range of cognitive capabilities: perceiving, reasoning, making choices, learning, communicating, and moving and manipulating.

Microsoft Acquires Canadian AI Research Firm; Yoshua Bengio Joins as Advisor

#artificialintelligence

Maluuba, a Canadian startup focused towards creating "Thinking Machines" is now part of Microsoft. Maluuba's acquisition will give Microsoft an edge over its rivals in AI and deep learning innovations. According to Harry Shum, Executive VP of Microsoft Artificial Intelligence and Research Group, Maluuba's research team will work closely with its voice assistant, Cortana. Microsoft's latest acquisition will boost its efforts to make rapid advancements towards building smarter systems using natural language processing technology. Maluuba has a full-fledged deep learning research lab to understand natural learning.

Towards Music Captioning: Generating Music Playlist Descriptions

arXiv.org Artificial Intelligence

Descriptions are often provided along with recommendations to help users' discovery. Recommending automatically generated music playlists (e.g. personalised playlists) introduces the problem of generating descriptions. In this paper, we propose a method for generating music playlist descriptions, which is called as music captioning. In the proposed method, audio content analysis and natural language processing are adopted to utilise the information of each track.

How to Use Deeplearning4J in Android Apps

#artificialintelligence

Usually, training a neural network is a task meant for powerful computers having multiple GPUs. But what if you want to do it on your humble Android phone or tablet? Considering an average Android device's specifications, however, it will most likely be quite slow. In this quick tutorial, I'll show you how to use Deeplearning4J, a popular Java-based deep learning library, to create and train a neural network on an Android device. To be able to use Deeplearning4J in your project, add the following compile dependencies to your app module's build.gradle As you can see, DL4J depends on ND4J, short for N-Dimensions for Java, which is a library that offers fast n-dimensional arrays.

Microsoft affirms commitment to AI with acquisition of deep learning startup Maluuba

#artificialintelligence

Microsoft today further proved its commitment to artificial intelligence through the acquisition of Maluuba. Maluuba -- a Montreal-based startup that impressed during TechCrunch's 2012 San Francisco Startup Battlefield competition -- uses natural language processing and machine learning to achieve a singular goal: achieving artificial general intelligence (AGI). AGI is the unicorn, at least so far, in the artificial intelligence and machine learning segments but if (once) achieved it'll lead to machines that can perform tasks at least as well as humans. This is a hands-on guide to machine learning for programmers with no background in AI. Using a neural network doesn't require a PhD, and you don't need to be the person who makes the next breakthrough in AI in order to use what exists today. What we have now is already breathtaking, and highly usable. I believe that more of us need to play with this stuff like we would any other open source technology, instead of treating it like a research topic. In this guide our goal will be to write a program that uses machine learning to predict, with a high degree of certainty, whether the images in data/untrained-samples are of dolphins or seahorses using only the images themselves, and without having seen them before. Here are two example images we'll use: To do that we're going to train and use a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN). We're going to approach this from the point of view of a practitioner vs. from first principles. There is so much excitement about AI right now, but much of what's being written feels like being taught to do tricks on your bike by a physics professor at a chalkboard instead of your friends in the park. I've decided to write this on Github vs. as a blog post because I'm sure that some of what I've written below is misleading, naive, or just plain wrong.

Microsoft acquires research-oriented deep learning startup Maluuba

#artificialintelligence

Microsoft today announced that it has acquired Maluuba, a research-oriented startup focusing on deep learning, a type of artificial intelligence (AI). As part of the deal, one of Maluuba's advisors, deep learning luminary Yoshua Bengio, will advise Microsoft. Terms of the deal weren't disclosed. Microsoft will announce what it's planning to do with Maluuba in the next few months, Harry Shum, executive vice president of Microsoft's recently formed artificial intelligence and research group, wrote in a blog post. "Maluuba's expertise in deep learning and reinforcement learning for question-answering and decision-making systems will help us advance our strategy to democratize AI and to make it accessible and valuable to everyone -- consumers, businesses and developers," Shum wrote.
