Stears Intelligence is hiring a Machine Learning Developer
Stears, after the launch of Nigeria's first real-time election database, is looking for an experienced data scientist to join Stears Intelligence: its data science and analytics team. Your role and project may change quicker than you expect. The only constant is that you will lead processes from data collection, cleaning, and preprocessing to training models and deploying them to production. You will also help in delivering products that empowers governments, investors, researchers and professionals in their quest for accurate and accessible data and intelligence. Our ideal candidate will be passionate about artificial intelligence and stay up-to-date with the latest developments in the field.
Q. If machine learning is so smart, how come AI models are such racist, sexist homophobes? A. Humans really suck
For this research, computer scientists at the University of Southern California (USC) and the University of California, Los Angeles, probed two state-of-the-art natural language systems: OpenAI's small GPT-2 model, which sports 124 million parameters, and Google's recurrent neural network [PDF] โ referred to as LM_1B in the Cali academics' paper [PDF] โ that was trained using the 1 Billion Word Language Benchmark. Machine-learning code, it seems, picks up all of its prejudices from its human creators: the software ends up with sexist, racist, and homophobic tendencies by learning from books, articles, and webpages subtly, or not so subtly, laced with our social and cultural biases. Multiple experiments have demonstrated that trained language models assume doctors are male, and are more likely to associate positive terms with Western names popular in Europe and America than African-American names, for instance. "Despite the fact that biases in language models are well-known, there is a lack of systematic evaluation metrics for quantifying and analyzing such biases in language generation," Emily Sheng, first author of the study and a PhD student at the USC, told The Register. And so, to evaluate the output of GPT-2 and LM_1B in a systematic way, the researchers trained two separate text classifiers, one to measure bias, and the other to measure sentiment.
A Simple, yet Technical Glossary of Terminology in AI
Agent: A bot used in AI-related tasks. Algorithm: Process that follows a set of rules, a problem solver -- especially used by computers. AlphaGo: Computer program that plays the board game Go. Recognized as the first computer Go program to beat a professional human Go player [5]. Artificial Intelligence (AI): Science and engineering of making computers behave in ways that, until recently, we thought required human intelligence [1].
Artificial intelligence is changing every aspect of war
AS THE NAVY plane swooped low over the jungle, it dropped a bundle of devices into the canopy below. Some were microphones, listening for guerrilla footsteps or truck ignitions. Others were seismic detectors, attuned to minute vibrations in the ground. Strangest of all were the olfactory sensors, sniffing out ammonia in human urine. Tens of thousands of these electronic organs beamed their data to drones and on to computers.
Top 10 Machine Learning Algorithms: Why Are They So Important in 2019?
I am a proud Ravenclaw and a fan of Stephen King (seriously, one of my dreams is to write something that the King will read. Plan B is to get invited to his house and have a coffee with him and his wife. I enjoy being a part of an awesome team of tech writers and we are having a ball writing our techie articles. Currently, I am finishing my second master's degree, at Vrije University, Brussels (Linguistics and Literature!) What else? Oh yeah, and I am a fan of progressive metal... and progressive technologies like AI and deep learning.
Hands-On Deep Learning with Apache Spark: Build and deploy distributed deep learning applications on Apache Spark: Guglielmo Iozzia: 9781788994613: Amazon.com: Books
Guglielmo Iozzia is currently a Big Data Delivery Manager at Optum in Dublin (Ireland). He completed his Masters' Degree in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Bologna (Italy). For his final year engineering project, he designed and implemented a diagnostic system to predict the behaviour of the intracranial pressure on patients in neurosurgery intensive care. The project was part of a bigger one in a collaboration between the DEIS (Department of Engineering, Information and Systems) of the University of Bologna and the Policlinico Hospital of Milan and it was carried out using real patients' data. After his graduation, he joined a newborn IT company in Bologna which had implemented a new system to manage online payments.

AI, ML & Deep Learning go Hand-in-Hand, Here's How!
AI, ML & DL are transforming the way industries are working. These technologies complement each other and work together to enhance the potential of every sector. FREMONT, CA: Machine Learning (ML), Deep Learning (DL) and Artificial intelligence (AI) are an assortment of Russians dolls nested with each other beginning as small, but it works out as a requirement for many businesses. DL is a subset of ML, and ML is a subset of AI, which becomes an umbrella team for any computer program that does something smart. AI is a statistical model which outlines raw sensory data to symbolic categories.

One of the most mindless features of modern education are standardized tests, which require pupils to regurgitate information usually committed to memory in rote fashion. Fortunately, a machine has now been made that can complete questions on a test about as well as the average student, perhaps freeing humans for more worthwhile types of learning. Just don't be confused that it has anything to do with learning as you typically think of it. Researchers at the Allen Institute for Artificial Intelligence in Seattle on Wednesday announced a new deep learning neural network program, called "Aristo" (a kind of play on Aristotle), giving it a good trumpet call with a story in The New York Times suggesting the thing can actually reason about science. What they did was make a program that can select correct answers on multiple-choice questions for the high school Regents exam for New York City, with an accuracy of 80% to 90%.
