What is GPT-4 and what does it mean for businesses?

#artificialintelligence

The scale and power of artificial intelligence (AI) is improving exponentially, with businesses increasingly able to access an array of cutting-edge tools to implement across their organisations. OpenAI, the non-profit AI research institute, is at the heart of much of this innovation, and the recently released DALL-E 2 image generation platform shows just how powerful AI tools are becoming. For years, OpenAI has also been working on text generation in the form of the Generative Pre-trained Transformer (GPT), an autoregressive language model that uses deep learning to produce human-like text, and its latest iteration, GPT-4, is on the verge of launch. It's been two years since GPT-3 was launched, with this neural network applying machine learning on streams of internet data to generate any type of text, on queue. Fascinatingly, only a small amount of input text is needed to create reams of pertinent and high-level machine-generated text.

Give this AI a few words of description and it produces a stunning image, but is it art?

#artificialintelligence

A picture may be worth a thousand words, but thanks to an artificial intelligence program called DALL-E 2, you can have a professional-looking image with far fewer. DALL-E 2 is a new neural network algorithm that creates a picture from a short phrase or sentence that you provide. The program, which was announced by the artificial intelligence research laboratory OpenAI in April 2022, hasn't been released to the public. But a small and growing number of people – myself included – have been given access to experiment with it. As a researcher studying the nexus of technology and art, I was keen to see how well the program worked.

It Happened One Frame: incredibly accurate video content search with OpenAI CLIP

#artificialintelligence

I love movies, so as a fun exercise for my fast.ai It's named "It Happened One Frame", in tribute to the classic 1934 romantic comedy "It Happened One Night". To use this app, all you need is the link to a Youtube video. For example, you could search "Macaulay Culkin screams with hands on his cheeks" in a Home Alone movie clip and get the screenshots that capture the most iconic scene in this classic. This particular image is so popular that you can easily get it from a google search.

Google's New Imagen AI Outperforms DALL-E on Text-to-Image Generation Benchmarks

#artificialintelligence

Researchers from Google's Brain Team have announced Imagen, a text-to-image AI model that can generate photorealistic images of a scene given a textual description. Imagen outperforms DALL-E 2 on the COCO benchmark, and unlike many similar models, is pre-trained only on text data. The model and several experiments were described in a paper published on arXiv. Imagen uses a Transformer language model to convert the input text into a sequence of embedding vectors. A series of three diffusion models then convert the embeddings into a 1024x1024 pixel image.

This AI model tries to re-create the mind of Ruth Bader Ginsburg

OpenAI, an Elon Musk-backed artificial intelligence company, unveiled a text-generator, called GPT-3 that can write movie scripts and undergirds an image generator, DALL-E 2, which translates text commands into inventive, sometimes psychedelic visuals. In 2020, Shoham's company created Wordtune, a tool that suggests different ways to write sentences. They followed the release a year later with Wordtune Read, which summarizes the main points of long, dense passages.

Synthetic Data Is About To Transform Artificial Intelligence

#artificialintelligence

These people do not exist. These faces were artificially generated using a form of deep learning ... [ ] known as generative adversarial networks (GANs). Synthetic data like this is becoming increasingly indistinguishable from real-world data. Imagine if it were possible to produce infinite amounts of the world's most valuable resource, cheaply and quickly. What dramatic economic transformations and opportunities would result? This is a reality today. It is called synthetic data. Synthetic data is not a new idea, but it is now approaching a critical inflection point in terms of real-world impact.

What is the DALL-E mini AI image generator?

#artificialintelligence

INTERNET memes have been around for years, with new ones popping up almost daily. As technology advances, so do ideas, and one site now lets users turn their words into images. In June 2022, the DALL-E mini image generator started going viral after the internet discovered its ability to create funny and disturbing images. Created in 2021, DALL-E is known as a transformer language model that can turn almost any idea into images. "It receives both the text and the image as a single stream of data containing up to 1280 tokens, and is trained using maximum likelihood to generate all of the tokens, one after another," according to Open AI. "This training procedure allows DALL·E to not only generate an image from scratch, but also to regenerate any rectangular region of an existing image that extends to the bottom-right corner, in a way that is consistent with the text prompt."

Artificial Intelligence Just Invented Its Own "Secret Language," Renewing Fears Over AI

#artificialintelligence

The Conversation – A new generation of artificial intelligence (AI) models can produce "creative" images on-demand based on a text prompt. While the output of these models is often striking, it's hard to know exactly how they produce their results. Last week, researchers in the US made the intriguing claim that the DALL-E 2 model might have invented its own secret language to talk about objects. DALLE-2 has a secret language. By prompting DALL-E 2 to create images containing text captions, then feeding the resulting (gibberish) captions back into the system, the researchers concluded DALL-E 2 thinks Vicootes means "vegetables", while Wa ch zod rea refers to "sea creatures that a whale might eat".
