 Generative AI

Here's how you can make stunning AI generated Art for free

#artificialintelligence

With advances in computing technology, artists discovered new tools to create Art. With recent advances in AI, text-to-image conversions are now possible. By entering just a text prompt, the underlying AI Algorithm can produce unique, never seen, beautiful images that could give human artists a run for their money. Digital Art was thus born, and in the last few years, Digital artists and digital Art has thrived. DALLยทE 2 uses a Deep Learning algorithm that can generate original, realistic images and Art from descriptions provided using natural language input text.

Someone's Making an Entire Movie Using Video Generated by AI

#artificialintelligence

A guy with no background in film or artificial intelligence is working on making an entire movie -- in a provocative attempt to demonstrate that generative AI art models can open ambitious levels of filmmaking to the masses. German tech entrepreneur Fabian Stelzer told PC Magazine that his 70s-style sci-fi film "Salt" will feature all artificial voices except his own, and that generative models will also create the film's footage and sound effects, too. From what Stelzer's been posting to Twitter to tease his progress, the film apears to be about space travelers who encounter a planet with an overgrowth of bizarre salt -- but beyond that basic premise, the neuroscientist is allowing his Twitter followers to determine which specific directions the film will go in a sort of "Choose Your Own Adventure" style for the AI age. "I definitely want to have a'Director's Cut' at some point, or a'Community's Cut,' but the real goal is to transcend the medium of film into something new," he said. "Like enable everyone in the community to eventually use a model that lets them write their own scenes."

Here's Bowie's "Space Oddity," created by YouTube user aidontknow. Their process involved typing the song lyrics into the AI prompt, verse by verse, to generate each image for the video. Sure, the likes of Midjourney, Dall-E, and Stable Fusion will one day leave the uncanny valley behind and provide a never-ending source of perfect stock photos that will look as convincing as the real thing. But there's also a big downside to all this fun: These tools are essentially mining the existing work of designers and photographers who receive no AI licensing fees in a rapidly evolving field that will have negative downstream effects for the industry. Right now, this video demonstrates that AI's often otherworldly results are still limited: well-suited for poetry and fantastic literature, but not anything too literal.

Dall-E 2 AI image generator is a surprisingly great fashion designer

#artificialintelligence

Karen Cheng is one of many creatives utilising AI as part of their idea generation process. Her recent fashion design project (opens in new tab) combines a few different AI models to get a smooth, automatic outfit switching catwalk video, and it's a true testament to how AI can benefit artists in such an immense way. Her process first involved using Dall-E 2 to generate a whole bunch of designs over the top of some stills. By indicating the intended design area with the brush and feeding it a brief for each type of clothing, i.e. white overalls, Cheng was able to get some really interesting generated outfits. It even did an alright job of matching the lighting, though she did have to sift through a good deal of bad designs, like the "dress inspired by MC Escher" below.

How to Prompt? Opportunities and Challenges of Zero- and Few-Shot Learning for Human-AI Interaction in Creative Applications of Generative Models

arXiv.org Artificial Intelligence

Deep generative models have the potential to fundamentally change the way we create high-fidelity digital content but are often hard to control. Prompting a generative model is a promising recent development that in principle enables end-users to creatively leverage zero-shot and few-shot learning to assign new tasks to an AI ad-hoc, simply by writing them down. However, for the majority of end-users writing effective prompts is currently largely a trial and error process. To address this, we discuss the key opportunities and challenges for interactive creative applications that use prompting as a new paradigm for Human-AI interaction. Based on our analysis, we propose four design goals for user interfaces that support prompting. We illustrate these with concrete UI design sketches, focusing on the use case of creative writing. The research community in HCI and AI can take these as starting points to develop adequate user interfaces for models capable of zero- and few-shot learning.

The DALL-E AI Program Draws Anything You Ask It to

#artificialintelligence

DALL-E is an open-source artificial intelligence that will draw nine images based on what it learned on the internet. Enter in any prompt and the AI spits out the graphics. It continues to learn so the more we all use it, the better it will be. The free version is now called Craiyon and also comes as an app for Android devices, making it even easier to create weird art based on a Mad Lib-like string of random ideas. Who doesn't want to see a giant squid assembling IKEA furniture?

Stable Diffusion Goes Public -- and the Internet Freaks Out

#artificialintelligence

Welcome to The Long View--where we peruse the news of the week and strip it to the essentials. Let's work out what really matters. Unless you've been living under a rock for the past week, you'll have seen something about Stable Diffusion. Like DALL-E and Midjourney, you give it a textual "prompt" and it generates amazing images (or sometimes utter garbage). Mark Hachman calls it'The new killer app' "Fine-tune your algorithmic art" AI art is fascinating.

Artists are pissed: AI-generated artwork wins first place at competition

#artificialintelligence

Jason Allen used Midjourney to create AI-generated art. It came in first at the Colorado State Fair fine arts competition art competition. The intense reactions were immediate. An AI-Generated Artwork Won First Place at a State Fair Fine Arts Competition, and Artists Are Pissed! Congrats to Sincarnate! Hopefully this can lead to a designated category for AI art? https://t.co/582iA3wyGb

AI Generative Art Based On Emotions

#artificialintelligence

The following is an experiment on testing how four of the popular AI Art generative tools interpret emotions in the purest sense. Meaning just one word per prompt, no descriptive text, no mention of style, no parameters, everything at its default setting. The results shown below are the first impressions, and for the two tools that start with a variation of four, I picked the first image of the four. The four generative tools I picked for this experiment are DALL-E 2, Stable Diffusion, Midjourney, and Disco Diffusion. Note that the name of Stable Diffusion's generative tool is now called DreamStudio.

The new feature, which OpenAI calls "outpainting," could be useful to graphic designers who need to create multiple sizes and shapes of a particular image to present in different contexts. A movie promo image, for instance, might require a perfectly square shape in one context, and a tall rectangular shape in another. For the latter, new art is required to fill in the extra space. DALL-E 2 creates original 1024 X 1024-pixel images based on a keyword descriptions entered by the user. It can also make images based on objects and styles it sees in other images.
