Council Post: Generative AI: Cloaked In Mystery And Debate

#artificialintelligence

Long before former Google engineer Blake Lemoine publicly wondered if the LaMDA AI he was supposed to test for discriminatory speech was, in fact, a sentient being, the world wondered about the sentience of a chess-playing automaton called the Mechanical Turk. In the late 18th century, Wolfgang von Kempelen was an advisor of the Austrian-Hungary court. A self-trained expert ahead of his time in physics, science and machinery, he was also a close confidant of Empress Maria Theresa and, one day, had her ear while a French magician performed for the court. Asked his opinion of the Frenchman, Wolfgang dismissed him as a hack. His tricks were too easy to explain, and Wolfgang boasted he could easily build a machine that would be much more impressive and defy any explanation.

ChatGPT Tutorial: How To Use ChatGPT by OpenAI

#artificialintelligence

ChatGPT has taken the internet by storm. People have been using it to compose music, understand complex topics, make jokes, write movie scripts, and even debug computer codes. Such is the bot's popularity; it took only five days to score its first million users. This detailed tutorial explains precisely how to use ChatGPT. But before we delve into the details, let's first consider what ChatGPT is and what's causing the huge buzz surrounding the latest AI tool.

OpenAI takes AI art to next level with the newly launched Point-E

#artificialintelligence

OpenAI creates a new standard in AI art with DALL-E 2. The multimodal model generates impressive, versatile, and creative motifs and can modify existing images to match the style. As a description one sentence is enough, several sentences work even better and create a more detailed picture. The next breakthrough to take the AI world by storm might be 3D model generators. Recently, OpenAI takes AI art to next level with the newly launched Point-E, a machine learning system that creates a 3D object given a text prompt. Point-E is basically an AI that generates 3D models.

Why Everyone's Obsessed With ChatGPT, a Mind-Blowing AI Chatbot - CNET

#artificialintelligence

The tool, from a power player in artificial intelligence called OpenAI, lets you type questions using natural language, to which the chatbot gives conversational, if somewhat stilted, answers. The bot remembers the thread of your dialogue, using previous questions and answers to inform its next responses. Its answers are derived from huge volumes of information on the internet. The tool seems pretty knowledgeable in areas where there's good training data for it to learn from. It's not omniscient or smart enough to replace all humans yet, but it can be creative, and its answers can sound downright authoritative.

ChatGPT's AI can build full crosswords. Are they actually playable?

#artificialintelligence

Note: The AI-made puzzle is near the end of this story. We don't need to wax poetic about ChatGPT's skills -- the world's already seeing it in action, as it churns out essays, 'inspirational' LinkedIn posts, even phishing emails that'd sucker the best of us. The AI chatbot is poised to replace the entire content writing industry, so there's a nagging question on every writer's mind: what can't it do? One of the answers, it turns out, is making a good word game. Now crosswords aren't easy things to build--apart from the actual'crossing' (interconnecting) of words, setters have to keep'product thinking' in mind.

AI and the future of work: will Artificial Intelligence affect the workforce? - The Hindu

#artificialintelligence

Experts thought that Artificial Intelligence (AI) would first automate the menial tasks. For eight straight years, Elon Musk has promised full self-driving capabilities in his Tesla cars. There has been significant progress towards this goal, mostly by companies other than Tesla. But sipping chai as an autopilot drives us from Marina Beach to Mylapore is still a future too far away. We may have made terrific -- or terrifying, depending on how you see it -- progress on another front.

Top AI startup news of the week: Jasper, Tome, Imagen AI and more

#artificialintelligence

Check out all the on-demand sessions from the Intelligent Security Summit here. Tome, which calls itself the "new storytelling format for work and important ideas" and last month integrated OpenAI's DALL-E into its flexible, interactive slide options, announced this week that it has added overall "generated storytelling" to the mix. That is, with a single text prompt, the AI startup says creators can "generate entire narratives from scratch, complete with intelligent titles, outlines, pagination, page layouts and page content supported by GPT-3 and AI-generated images." The capabilities have been launched in beta. According to a press release, additional iterations and new AI functionality, including text and tone editing, inline image adjustments, and alternate layouts, are expected in early 2023.
