ChatGPT can ace logic tests now. But don't ask it to be creative.

Washington Post - Technology News

OpenAI claims that by optimizing its "deep learning," GPT-4's biggest leaps have been in logical reasoning and creative collaboration. GPT-4 was trained on data from the internet that goes up through September 2021, which means it's a little more current than its predecessor GPT-3.5. And while GPT-4 still has a problem with randomly making up information, OpenAI says it is 40 percent more likely to provide factual responses.

But why does that matter? Simply put: a picture is worth a thousand words. GPT-4 bridges the communication gap with AI by embracing visual imagery to better express our intent. TL;DR What ControlNet did for image generation, GPT-4 will do for LLMs. Let's explore why... Conveying intent purely in text form requires an exacting command of the language, but still leaves too much to interpretation.

A new and faster machine learning flywheel for enterprises

This post is a commentary on the MLCommons article "Perspective: Unlocking ML requires an ecosystem approach" by Peter Mattson, Aarush Selvan, David Kanter, Vijay Janapa Reddi, Roger Roberts, and Jacomo Corbo. The world of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) is undergoing a sea change from science to engineering at scale. Over the past decade, the volume of AI research has skyrocketed as the cost to train and deploy commercial models has decreased. Between 2015 and 2021, the cost to train an image classification system fell by 64 percent, while training times improved by 94 percent in the same period.1 The emergence of foundation models--large-scale, deep learning models trained on massive, broad, unstructured data sets--has enabled entrepreneurs and business executives to see the possibility of true scale.

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman says AI will reshape society, acknowledges risks: 'A little bit scared of this' - ABC News

#artificialintelligence

The CEO behind the company that created ChatGPT believes artificial intelligence technology will reshape society as we know it. He believes it comes with real dangers, but can also be "the greatest technology humanity has yet developed" to drastically improve our lives. "We've got to be careful here," said Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI. "I think people should be happy that we are a little bit scared of this." Altman sat down for an exclusive interview with ABC News' chief business, technology and economics correspondent Rebecca Jarvis to talk about the rollout of GPT-4 -- the latest iteration of the AI language model.

Much of 2023 so far has been dominated by the accelerated adoption of generative Artificial Intelligence. Starting with research organisation OpenAI's ChatGPT platform, the first three months of this year has seen several such AI chatbot platforms being launched by the tech giants โ€“ ranging from Microsoft, Google, Meta, China's Baidu, as well as a plethora of other tech companies across the world. As per a report by Comscore, OpenAI registered more than 1 million actions on social media in January 2023 โ€“ double the number it had generated in the entire fourth quarter of 2022. For ChatGPT, the numbers are even higher, with 9.2 million actions in January 2023, a 330% increase compared to Q4 2022. OpenAI has just released its latest offering, GPT-4, on March 14, 2023 to scale up deep learning.

Nvidia GTC event to showcase generative AI 'arms race' - MarketWatch

Earlier in the month, Nvidia Chief Financial Officer Colette Kress told an investors conference that AI was at "an inflection point," not only with the growing popularity of models such as on the rise, but also as more and more businesses face cost pressures, the apps are being looked upon, and marketed, as efficiency tools. Citi Research analyst Atif Malik on Friday reiterated his buy of Nvidia and raised his price target on the stock to $305 from $245 ahead of GTC because of the "generative AI arms race" underway as companies like Alphabet and Meta Platforms Inc. META, -4.55% vie for their own AI solutions "Despite macro concerns, hyperscalers are prioritizing cloud capex spending on a broad set of generative AI/ML use cases," Malik said. "We view Nvidia's flagship GTC conference next week to be a key event to showcase the future of generative AI for the industry." Read: Nvidia's stock upgraded as AI deemed'too much of a megatrend' to ignore Just this past week, OpenAI, backed by a multibillion-dollar investment from Microsoft Corp. MSFT, 1.17%, rolled out its newest, "safer" version of ChatGPT, GPT-4, and while Malik said it was "not perfect," it is "surely impressive." The buzz behind AI couldn't come at a better time for Nvidia, which is a major hardware supplier of graphics processing units to data centers like the ones used by Amazon.com

Stable Diffusion was trained on LAION-5B, an open-source dataset, which resulted in the public being able to see if their own images were included in the dataset. GPT-4's release is the latest volley from OpenAI in an AI arms race. Big tech companies like Google, Microsoft, and Meta are racing to create new AI technologies as fast as possible, often sidestepping or shrugging off ethical concerns along the way. Google announced on Wednesday that its language model PaLM would be launching an API for businesses and developers to use. Meanwhile, Microsoft cut an entire ethics and society team within its AI department, as part of its recent layoffs, leaving the company without a dedicated responsible AI team, while it continues to adopt OpenAI products as part of its business.

By now, you've probably read no end of articles about GPT-3 and its derivative model, ChatGPT. You may even have played with the AI yourself, whether using the OpenAI website directly, using Bing's new chat feature, or some other implementation. It's rather limited, as articles around the web have enjoyed pointing out, but it's also only one step along the path toward generalized artificial intelligence. The next step is already here, predictably named GPT-4. GPT-4 was just released by OpenAI today, and the company describes it as "the latest milestone" in deep learning.
