AI Won't Kill Our Jobs, It Will Kill Our Job Descriptions--and Leave Us Better Off

#artificialintelligence

The hype around artificial intelligence has been building for years, and you could say it reached a crescendo with OpenAI's recent release of ChatGPT (and now GPT-4). It only took two months for ChatGPT to reach 100 million users, making it the fastest-growing consumer application in history (it took Instagram two and a half years to gain the same user base, and TikTok nine months). In Ian Beacraft's opinion, we're in an AI hype bubble, way above the top of the peak of inflated expectations on the Gartner Hype Cycle. But it may be justified, because the AI tools we're seeing really do have the power to overhaul the way we work, learn, and create value. Beacraft is the founder of the strategic foresight agency Signal & Cipher and co-owner of a production studio that designs virtual worlds. In a talk at South by Southwest last week, he shared his predictions of how AI will shape society in the years and decades to come.

OpenAI says a bug leaked sensitive ChatGPT user data

Engadget

OpenAI was forced to take its wildly-popular ChatGPT bot offline for emergency maintenance on Tuesday after a user was able to exploit a bug in the system to recall the titles from other users' chat histories. On Friday the company announced its initial findings from the incident. In Tuesday's incident, users posted screenshots on Reddit that their ChatGPT sidebars featured previous chat histories from other users. Only the title of the conversation, not the text itself, were visible. OpenAI, in response, took the bot offline for nearly 10 hours to investigate. The results of that investigation revealed a deeper security issue: the chat history bug may have also potentially revealed personal data from 1.2 percent of ChatGPT Plus subscribers (a $20/month enhanced access package).

The gold-rush has started, and this time, it's not gold that's driving the frenzy -- it's AI. The world is currently witnessing an AI revolution that is changing the way we live, work, and interact. With advancements in machine learning, natural language processing, and computer vision, AI is becoming more intelligent and sophisticated, enabling it to take on complex tasks and decision-making processes. As AI technology continues to evolve, we also need to evolve in order to harness its full potential, avoid being obsolete and mitigate potential risks. ChatGPT is an AI language model developed by OpenAI that can generate human-like responses to text-based prompts.

Klarna Adds ChatGPT as an Enhancement to Online Shopping โ€“ Digital Transactions

#artificialintelligence

ChatGPT, the artificial intelligence-based chatbot developed by OpenAI, is being rolled out by Klarna AB to provide what the payments platform calls personalized and intuitive shopping experiences. Online shoppers will be able to ask Klarna, through the chatbot, for product recommendations, as well as receive links to shop recommended products through Klarna's search and compare tool. While Klarna says it will not be using ChatGPT for payments, the company joins Stripe Inc. as one of the first payments companies to adopt the technology in any capacity. Stripe announced earlier this month it was incorporating ChatGPT's natural-language technology into its products and services. Klarna will enable the ChatGPT plugin for ChatGPT users, beginning with ChatGPT Plus subscribers in the United States and Canada, and gradually roll the technology out to other regions.

Language models today, while useful for a variety of tasks, are still limited. The only information they can learn from is their training data. This information can be out-of-date and is one-size fits all across applications. Furthermore, the only thing language models can do out-of-the-box is emit text. This text can contain useful instructions, but to actually follow these instructions you need another process.

Is GPT-4 already showing signs of artificial general intelligence?

New Scientist

Microsoft researchers have claimed that OpenAI's GPT-4 is capable of such a wide variety of tasks, in some cases exceeding human ability, that the artificial intelligence model is showing "sparks" of artificial general intelligence (AGI). Is this long-awaited goal near or are these claims just hype? While no standard definition AGI exists, it is most commonly understood to refer to an AI that can understand and learn any intellectual task that humans are capable of.

Chatbots Could Be Used For Large-Scale Disinformation: ChatGPT Founder Sam Altman

#artificialintelligence

ChatGPT has taken the world by storm as people fear that jobs might be wiped off. An AI chatbot created by OpenAI, ChatGPT was released in November 2022. It has the ability to deliver human-like responses, making it popular among users. By December 4, 2022, the tool had already had over a million users. While chatbot has potential to generate content and conversational responses to users' queries, it has also fueled fears that it can be used to aid scammers and disinformation.

Brands are scrambling to incorporate generative AI into their strategy to stay ahead of the curve. But according to our analysts, AI's current uses are just the tip of the iceberg. Here are some recent AI innovations and predictions for the tech's evolution. Last month, Snapchat launched My AI, a chatbot powered by OpenAI's ChatGPT technology. The chatbot can recommend birthday gift ideas, plan a hiking trip, or suggest a dinner recipe.

Is GPT-4 Worth the Subscription? Here's What You Should Know

WIRED

When I logged into OpenAI's website on Monday morning to continue testing the new version of ChatGPT powered by GPT-4, the chatbot didn't try to sabotage my relationship, write my emails, or unleash my creativity--it simply didn't work. Demand is high, and the company is experiencing occasional outages. Greg Brockman, an OpenAI cofounder and president, was upfront about the model's imperfection in a recent livestream. He also reminded listeners that they were not without blemishes themselves. Generative AI is the focal point for many Silicon Valley investors after OpenAI's transformational release of ChatGPT late last year.

ChatGPT creator launches even more powerful GPT-4

#artificialintelligence

OpenAI, the creator of the wildly popular ChatGPT, has launched a new and even more powerful AI bot, GPT-4 -- and admits it's so advanced it could be'harmful'. The bot can now accept inputs in the form of images as well as text, but still outputs its answers in text, meaning it can offer detailed descriptions of images. If asked, 'What's funny about this image?' Among other things, it can instantly calculate people's tax liability and can pass the Uniform Bar Exam. OpenAI said in a blog post: 'We've created GPT-4, the latest milestone in OpenAI's effort in scaling up deep learning.
