5 innovative ways to improve your retail business
Retail and e-commerce is one of the most competitive industries. Besides some of the more major players such as eBay, Amazon, Walmart, and Target, thousands of smaller eCommerce products have flooded the market. In order to stand out among your competitors, win more customers, and, as a result, increase your revenue, you should keep an eye on the latest technological advancements. By adopting new technologies within your retail business, you will be able to grow your sales, increase brand awareness and customer loyalty, and improve your customer service. This is only the tip of the iceberg.
Why You're Not Getting Value from Your Data Science
Businesses today are constantly generating enormous amounts of data, but that doesn't always translate to actionable information. Over the past several years, my research group at MIT and I have sought answers to a fundamental question: What would it take for businesses to realize the full potential of their data repositories with machine learning? As we worked to design machine learning–based solutions with a variety of industry partners, we were surprised to find that the existing answers to this question often didn't apply. First, whenever we spoke with machine learning experts (data scientists focused on training and testing predictive models) about the most difficult part of their job, they said again and again, "the data is a mess." Initially, taking that statement literally, we imagined it referred to well-known issues with data -- missing values or a lack of coherence across databases.
Watch an AI teach itself to drive in 'GTA V' on Twitch
Programmer Harrison'Sentdex' Kinsley created the AI (or "convolutional neural network"), named it Charles, and set it loose in the game to teach itself through deep learning. As Kinsley describes in the Twitch description, Charles "learns and takes all actions based on single frames at a time, and bases his decisions on just pixel data. What the AI can't do yet is remember: Kinsley didn't program in memory, forcing it to make split-second decisions one frame at a time, like so. Whether this AI becomes a better driver and validates educating neural networks through simulation, at least we can chuckle that even machines have trouble driving these games.
The Habits Your AI Personal Assistant Will Need To Learn Before You'll Trust It – Hunt Partner's Blog
Amy works just like a human assistant, except she's not human. It's an AI bot made by X.ai, a company specializing in scheduling assistants that respond to natural language. Amy is so good at what she does that I find myself thanking her for booking a meeting, forgetting she needs no more thanks than my microwave. It's impossible to ignore all the buzz about AI bots. Last month, Facebook's David Marcus announced that over 30,000 bots have been built since the opening of its Messenger app to bot developers in April.
Artificial intelligence used to combat blindness
The focus of the research is with the application of deep-learning methods to produce an automated algorithm designed to detect diabetic retinopathy from the scanning of images of the eye. The technology is a type of'deep learning'. Deep Learning is a new area of machine learning research, which has been introduced with the objective of moving Machine Learning closer to one of its original goals: 'true' Artificial Intelligence. The algorithm is based on more than 75,000 images, taken from the back of the eye, and relating to a wide range of patients representing several ethnicities. The images included a mix of health patients and those with the condition.
Are we living in an AI golden age?
At a recent Internet Association Gala, Jeff Bezos, Amazon founder and CEO, intimated that we are currently living the "golden age" of artificial intelligence. With product development and artificial intelligence (AI) applications on a seemingly rapid upward trajectory, Bezos might not be wrong. Open source software and the emergence of edge computing have allowed widespread AI development. Due to standardized operating frameworks and interconnectivity of technology, it's never been easier to develop AI products. Skeptics, such as Tim Berners-Lee and Stephen Hawking, however, argue that an AI renaissance will likely herald the end of mankind.
Unsupervised Learning and Text Mining of Emotion Terms Using R
Unsupervised learning refers to data science approaches that involve learning without a prior knowledge about the classification of sample data. In Wikipedia, unsupervised learning has been described as "the task of inferring a function to describe hidden structure from'unlabeled' data (a classification of categorization is not included in the observations)". The overarching objectives of this post were to evaluate and understand the co-occurrence and/or co-expression of emotion words in individual letters, and if there were any differential expression profiles /patterns of emotions words among the 40 annual shareholder letters? Differential expression of emotion words was being used to refer to quantitative differences in emotion word frequency counts among letters, as well as qualitative differences in certain emotion words occurring uniquely in some letters but not present in others. This is the second part to a companion post I have on "parsing textual data for emotion terms". As with the first post, the raw text data set for this analysis was using Mr. Warren Buffett's annual shareholder letters in the past 40-years (1977 – 2016).
The most important topics in Machine Learning and Data Mining
For a data scientist is essential to be familiar with the most important and current fields of research in machine learning and data mining. The algorithms in machine learning and data mining advance to a higher level of accuracy and flexibility and a data scientist should be prepared to implement the best algorithms and methods. The investigation of most common topics in machine learning and data mining provides an insight about the most relevant areas of research. To achieve this goal, I used the database of ScienceDirect.com. ScienceDirect has access to about 2,500 academic journals, more than 26,000 e-books and more than 13 million articles.
