That brings the total number of hiring partners for Udacity to over 30, which means a lot of potential soft landings for graduates of its nanodegree programs. Artificial intelligence could be a boon to HR leaders. Artificial intelligence is coming to human resources, but it's not going to be as exciting as Hollywood would have us believe. There will be no tiny humanoids roaming the halls offering AI benefits counseling, or shiny silver robots hosting AI yoga classes in the cafeteria. But in the not too distant future, there could be a Siri-like service that can answer employee benefits questions or tells people where the yoga class is, said Anthony Onesto, executive adviser to technology start-ups and vice president of Razor Fish, a digital marketing agency. Onesto is working on a project, currently in beta, called SueAI, an artificially intelligent human resource associate who answers human resource questions for HR leaders and their teams.

Health researchers at Houston Methodist Hospital have developed an artificial intelligence application they cite as being 30 times faster than human doctors and 99% accurate in reading and interpreting mammograms. Houston Methodist used the artificial intelligence software to evaluate mammograms and pathology reports of 500 breast cancer patients. The software scanned patient charts, collected diagnostic features and correlated mammogram findings for breast cancer. Clinicians then used the results, like the expression of tumor proteins, to accurately predict each patient's probability of a breast cancer diagnosis, the hospital says. In the U.S., 12.1 million mammograms are performed annually, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

AlphaGo, the computer program that beat a world champion at Go, acts rationally when it plays the game (it plays to win). But it doesn't necessarily think the way a human being does, though it engages in some of the same pattern-recognition tasks.

Tesla Motors missed its vehicle delivery target for the second consecutive quarter and is on track to fall short of its annual target, suggesting the US electric car maker is still wrestling with production issues as it looks to transform itself into a mainstream, high-volume manufacturer. Elon Musk's self-driving evangelism masks risk of Tesla autopilot, experts say Tesla, led by Silicon Valley star Elon Musk, delivered 14,370 vehicles during the second quarter, missing its target of 17,000 vehicles, it said in a statement on Sunday. The company blamed an unusually large number of vehicles still in transit to customers and an "extreme" production ramp that led to almost half of the quarter's vehicles being made in the last four weeks. Tesla said it expects to deliver about 50,000 vehicles during the second half of the year. Having delivered only 29,190 vehicles in the first two quarters, even if it hits that target, it would leave the company just short of the low end of its earlier expectation of 80,000 to 90,000 deliveries this year.

Building a Westworld host is kind of like putting together a piece of IKEA furniture while on hallucinogenics -- directions are pretty much useless.
