Generator and Discriminator consist of Deconvolutional Network (DNN) and Convolutional Neural Network (CNN). CNN is a neural network which encodes the hundreds of pixels of an image into a vector of small dimensions (z) which is a summary of the image. DNN is a network that learns filters to recover the original image from z. When a real image is given, Discriminator should output 1 or 0 for whether the image was generated from Generator. In the contrast, Generator generates an image from z, which follows a Gaussian Distribution, and tries to figure out the distribution of human images from z.

Google may be looking to ensure its control of the world's search market by building a gesture-based smartphone and tablet keyboard designed to work with Apple's iPhone and iPad, which has integrated search functionality, according to sources speaking to the Verge. According to the report, Google employees have been testing the new keyboard for several months already though the search giant has yet to decide when or if it will release the keyboard to Apple's App Store. With the introduction of iOS 8 in 2014, Apple finally opened up its software to allow users install third-party keyboards to replace the stock iOS version. Google's keyboard, like the stock Android keyboard, allows for gesture typing, a feature that allows users to swipe their finger from one letter to the next allowing Google to then guess what word you want based on the shape of the gesture you have made. As well as this gesture feature, Google is said to be integrating GIFs and images directly into the keyboard which would be powered by Google's own image search.

AlphaGo, from Google's DeepMind, made history today with its historic 4–1 defeat of Go world champion, Lee Sedol. Prior to the five-game match, many Go experts, including Mr. Lee himself predicted that the machine would be defeated 5–0 or, if it did well, 4–1. The result was quite the opposite with Mr. Lee managing just one win. This is both a shock for Go players, and represents an achievement in AI that many had not expected for at least another decade. Games, and in particular abstract strategy games like Go, chess and draughts have been a staple of AI research since its inception.

Cherubic Ventures, an early-stage VC firm with a focus on the U.S. and Asia, has announced a new fund targeted at 120 million. Fundraising is still ongoing, and founder-managing partner Matt Cheng told TechCrunch that the firm currently has 80 million in confirmed commitments from LPs. Cheng started Cherubic back in 2010 after spending time with Chinese social portal Tian Ge Interactive and C Squared Venture Capital. Today, its portfolio includes close to 90 companies worldwide, such as Hyperloop, Luxe and Wish in the U.S., Cloud Union and Liulishuo in China, and Pinkoi and Chadal in the wider Asian continent. The firm has offices in Beijing, Taipei and San Francisco but, alongside the announcement of the fund, Cheng said it had opened a new headquarters in Shanghai. That will house around half of the firm's team, which Cheng expects will increase to 12 this year.

It's a new form of analytical model building that helps companies to predict behaviour of data and in turn, relate that to their customers.

Machine learning is generating a tremendous amount of attention these days from the press as well as the practitioners. And rightly so – machine learning is a transformative technology. But despite the references to the topic, the money raised from venture capitalists, and the spotlight that Google is bringing to the subject, machine learning is still poorly understood outside of a core group of highly technical leaders. This has the effect of underestimating how transformative machine learning is going to be. It also has the effect of shielding business leaders from what they need to do to prepare for the era of machine learning.
