I Think Microsoft's A.I. Chatbot Is Flirting With Me
Or, at least that's what she's been trained to have. Today, Microsoft unleashed a new chatbot onto Twitter, Kik, and GroupMe, playfully targeted at 18-24 year olds. Named Tay.ai, the bot is designed to "engage and entertain people where they connect with each other online," according to Tay's totally 100-emoji website. Tay's conversational style is "exactly what your parents think a teen would say"-chic. She LOLs and is low key about things.
Workforce Automation: Could Robots Replace Members?
Twitter turned 10 years old this week. Associations, contrary to some dire predictions back then, have survived the past decade's rise of social media, in large part because not much actually changed about our basic desires for belonging, community, and collaboration. The tools are new, but it's still our fellow humans using them to connect. But what if, in the not-too-distant future, your association's target audience became less and less human? Perhaps then you might have some greater concern.
Tay tweets: Microsoft creates bizarre Twitter robot for people to chat to
Microsoft has created a strange robot that can converse with people on Twitter. The robot, apparently named Tay, is artificially intelligent and speaks with people who send messages to it. It appears to be based on Microsoft's machine learning work and claims that it will get better as it is used. The account, found at @TayandYou, responds automatically to all tweets. But it remains a complete mystery why Microsoft created the account โ which has been verified by Twitter โ and what it plans to do with it. Boston Dynamics describes itself as'building dynamic robots and software for human simulation'.

Top 10 Data Science and Machine Learning Podcasts - Dataconomy
Data Skeptic takes a different take on how we review data--thanks to some healthy skepticism, listeners come out with unusual information and knowledge. The show alternates between interviews with industry experts, and mini episodes wherein the host explains data science tidbits to his non data scientist wife. The tone of this show is simultaneously intellectual and a bit off beat. It's fun, and easier to follow than highly technical podcasts. If you need a series with nice production quality and clear, friendly radio voices, this may be the one.
IBM announces new Watson APIs for developers to make AI apps more human - TechRepublic
IBM Watson, Big Blue's cognitive computing division, announced Tuesday that it was expanding the availability of Watson APIs with three new tools: Tone Analyzer, Emotion Analysis, and Visual Recognition. The announcement was made at IBM's 2016 Interconnect Conference in Las Vegas, Nevada. The APIs will help further developers' abilities to leverage the emotional and visual analysis capabilities that are becoming a foundational piece of cognitive computing. "These latest API enhancements will enable developers to create cognitive solutions that offer expanded capabilities and reflect the different sensory dimensions of the human condition," said IBM Watson vice president and CTO Rob High. In a press release, David Kenny, general manager of IBM Watson, said the Watson updates serve to help the "community create dynamic AI infused apps and services."
IBM's Watson Will Give Personalized Suggestions For Cancer Patients
PRNewswire gave us insight into the partnership between IBM Watson and the New York Genome Center, at the White House Precision Medicine Initiative Summit. The two have collaborated to produce personalized cancer treatments based on individual variation in genes. IBM and New York Genome Center are creating an open repository of cancer data, consisting of genome sequencing, exome sequencing, and clinical data. The amassed data will be fed into Watson for a precision medicine approach, by suggesting treatment options to clinicians, based on an individuals cancer-causing mutations. The project has three processing stages. First, genetic information from 200 cancer patients will be examined to see how different genome sequencing responds to different treatments.
Some Artificial Intelligence Applications Are Making Humans Better People
It may seem like humanity has been taking a lot of hits from artificial intelligence lately -- from the AI that recently defeated world champion Lee Sedol in the game of Go, to the AI that consistently beats us on "Jeopardy," to the AI that is currently out-trumping Donald Trump on Twitter. Artificial intelligence can help make humanity better, not just by winning games or driving cars, but also by addressing some of the not-so-great aspects of human nature. In fact, building smarter AI means we're getting smarter ourselves. Take Fan Hui, the European champion who lost five matches of Go earlier this year to the same AI Lee Sedol played against last month. When Fan Hui first played the AlphaGo AI, he was ranked 633rd in the world. Now he is ranked in the 300s.
[Video] Building an Artificial Intelligence Personal Assistant
Artificial intelligence can be defined as the branch of computer science that deals in machine learning and data science. It's basically the creation of machines that learn not just like humans but rather have the capability to go beyond. In this video, Dennis Mortensen is the founder and CEO of x.ai, a technology startup using artificial intelligence to create free personal assistants, discusses the team's vision to seamlessly schedule meetings and how they're overcoming the challenges in their attempts towards pioneering an unknown industry.
