An AI expert says Google's Go-playing program is missing 1 key feature of human intelligence

#artificialintelligence

Google DeepMindComputers may be able to beat us at Go, but they still can't match us in the real world. AlphaGo, a software program developed by British AI company Google DeepMind, has defeated Korean Go champion Lee Sedol in two out of five matches so far. It will play its third match at 10:30 p.m. EST Friday night, streamed live on YouTube. If AlphaGo beats Sedol in this tournament, it will cement its place in the annals of AI history. But how long will it be before machines can match human-level intelligence in the real world? We asked an expert on artificial intelligence, computer scientist Richard Sutton of the University of Alberta in Canada.

"Intelligence Squared" Artificial Intelligence Debate

#artificialintelligence

I attended the Intelligence Squared artificial intelligence debate at the 92nd St. Y's Seven Day of Genius Festival (March 9th) and felt like I had a seat at the edge of the world. For better or worse, this is arguably the central debate of the 21st century. The motion was "Don't Trust The Promise of AI?" Jaron Lanier and Andrew Keen took the position we shouldn't trust AI, while Martine Rothblatt and James Hughes argued we should. There were transhumanists on both sides of the debate, which made things interesting. For those unfamiliar, "transhumanism is an international and intellectual movement aiming to transform the human condition by developing and creating widely available sophisticated technologies to greatly enhance human intellectual, physical, and psychological capacities."

Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) Aims to Bring Artificial Intelligence to the Mainstream

#artificialintelligence

Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) is aiming at Artificial Intelligence for their future plans. According to recent reports, the company is looking to work on chat-bots, intelligent agents and digital assistants and is looking towards bringing them to the mainstream of their devices. It was conveyed by the giant that Artificial Intelligence is the next big thing and is going to transform the way people "interact with the digital world". The CEO of the company, Satya Nadella said at the recent developer conference that Microsoft is looking to make technology to help humanity and get the best out of it. He added that their ultimate goal is to make the human language the "new user interface" and that they envision a world where everything is going to be controlled by your voice with Artificial Intelligence doing the hard work at the back.

The ethics of machine intelligence

#artificialintelligence

How comfortable are you with hard decisions? If it affected you, how comfortable would you be with losing your agency and having someone else make the decision for you? What if that decision isn't made by a person but a machine? More than abstract questions, these are going to become as divisive a social issue as genetic manipulation. In many ways, they strike at the heart of what we believe makes us human. Let's play things forward a bit; sometime in the near future, a car's travelling from Chicago to New York.

Fundamentals of Deep Learning โ€“ Starting with Artificial Neural Network

#artificialintelligence

Did you know the first neural network was discovered in early 1950s? Deep Learning (DL) and Neural Network (NN) is currently driving some of the most ingenious inventions in today's century. Their incredible ability to learn from data and environment makes them the first choice of machine learning scientists. Deep Learning and Neural Network lies in the heart of products such as self driving cars, image recognition software, recommender systems etc. Evidently, being a powerful algorithm, it is highly adaptive to various data types as well. People think neural network is an extremely difficult topic to learn. Therefore, either some of them don't use it, or the ones who use it, use it as a black box.

5 mind-blowing technologies set to change supply chain management - Tradeshift Blog

#artificialintelligence

Between smart machines, A.I., and big data, supply chain management is steadily embracing futuristic technology. This is driven by a confluence of factors, including rapid technological development, a more strategic charter being pushed from the C-suite, and the realization that company-wide agility begins at the supply chain level. Data gets buzz in every market, but supply chain management is a field where it can have an immediate impact. David Wilkins, Vice President of Supply Chain at Raytheon sums it up well, "Our customers need us to "do more with less" โ€“ that means providing the most advanced capability at the lowest possible price. When roughly 70 percent of a program's cost comes from materials, we know we can reduce costs by sourcing smarter. To do this, we're using data analytics, collaborative technology and internal strategic sourcing."

The Week in Construction, Automation & Artificial Intelligence

Their intention is to create a community that is highly livable as well as eco-friendly and energy efficient. "The village will feature vertical vegetable gardens and a laboratory where a desktop printer will make furniture, biomedical products, jewelry and ceramics." It's a true test of not just the technology, but of the feasibility and durability of buildings composed of printed parts. Big Delta is the world's largest 3D printer. WASP built this 40-foot machine in order to build houses as quickly as possible.

Deep Huge: AI Predicts Donald Trump Becoming the Next President

#artificialintelligence

Predicting the Presidential Election is practically a national sport. However, traditional predictors โ€“ especially the talkshow hosts on Fox News โ€“ have historically been terrible at calling the next set of numbers. It took Nate Silver's exceptional statistical skill to show us that with public data, you could accurately predict the election down to the last winning percentage โ€“ if the mind doing the calculations was good enough. Artificial Intelligence has evolved exponentially over the years. We've gone from Deep Blue beating Gary Kasparov to DeepMind mastering Go.

The 40 biggest moments in Apple history

USATODAY - Tech Top Stories

Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak founded Apple 40 years ago. On Friday, Apple reaches a major milestone in its history, celebrating 40 years since it was founded by Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak. It was a long road to becoming one of the world's biggest tech names, nearly reaching the edge of a financial collapse before Jobs returned to save the company and launch arguably its most important products. On Apple's 40th birthday, we look back at the 40 biggest moments in company history: While hanging out together as part of the Homebrew Computer Club, the two friends formed Apple from Jobs' garage. "We first met during my college years, while he was in high school," Wozniak said in a 2007 interview with ABC News.
