Though still at its infancy stage, Artificial Intelligence (AI) is eliciting much enthusiasm from many people. He believes that although Artificial Intelligence is currently disguised as a helpful digital assistant and helping us with autonomous works like self-driving car and all. Hawking warns that AI and robotics could evolve faster than human beings could, and their goals and mission for existence will be unpredictable. Artificial Intelligence has the potential to evolve faster that the human race.

Humans and Artificial Intelligence Should Coexist

#artificialintelligence

"By some estimates, 47% of existing jobs in the US could be replaced by automation," said Wendell Wallach, Scholar, Interdisciplinary Center for Bioethics, Yale University, USA. "When the World Bank used similar methodology, it came up with 69% in India, and 77% in China. If that's truly the case, we are talking about tremendous jobs being lost," he added. The central concern is: what are we training our children for in the future? How should they be cooperating with these technologies to go beyond what any machine alone can realize and perhaps bring about super intelligence, he asked. Lee Sedol, Grand Master, Korea Baduk Association, Republic of Korea, pointed to the need to think ahead and focus on solving disruptions brought on by technologies such as driverless vehicles.

Tesla autopilot crash: Fatal collision was tragic but self-driving technology should still continue, say experts

The Independent - Tech

Experts have come out in defence of automated driving technology after a driver was killed while using his Tesla's autopilot feature. Specialists in the fields of artificial intelligence, engineering, and transport have said that while the death was tragic, it should not prevent the software from being developed. Joshua Brown, 40, died when his Tesla Model S went underneath the trailer of a lorry that had turned left in front of him on a Florida road in May, prompting an urgent investigation by Tesla itself and the US authorities. In a statement on its blog, Tesla explained that the technology is still under development and that as an assist feature drivers "need to maintain control and responsibility for [their] vehicle' while using it." The company went on to say that the autopilot mode does still result "in a statistically significant improvement in safety."

Instructions for how to install the neccessary software for this tutorial is available here. Data for the tutorial can be downloaded by running ./data/get-data.sh (requires wget). Certain algorithms don't scale well when there are millions of features. For example, decision trees require computing some sort of metric (to determine the splits) on all the feature values (or some fraction of the values as in Random Forest and Stochastic GBM). Therefore, computation time is linear in the number of features. Algorithms can deal with data sparsity (where many of the feature values are zero) in different ways.

Machine Learning Technology Predicting Wimbledon Social Media Trends

#artificialintelligence

Reuters โ€“ Around half a million fans will attend this year's Wimbledon tennis championships. But that figure is dwarfed by the number talking about the on-court action on social media. Wimbledon and partner IBM are using artificial intelligence to keep their 10 million-strong digital audience engaged. "The opportunity you have to attract someone on social media is around six seconds," said Sam Seddon, IBM Client Executive for Wimbledon. "So understanding what they're interested in in that moment is really critical. When you've got 10 million social media followers, that's a huge amount of conversation going on. So the challenge is how do you analyse millions and millions of posts across Facebook, across Twitter, across Instagram, in that moment."

IBM Watson Provides Self-Service AI for Developers

IBM Watson Provides Self-Service AI for Developers By Darryl K. Taft Posted 2016-05-07 Print In what IBM calls "self-service AI," the company enables developers to easily tap into the power of its Watson APIs to build cognitive apps. When IBM initially launched its Watson cognitive computing platform, one of the first questions on a lot folks' minds was, "When can I tap into the power of Watson?" IBM responded by opening up Watson to developers via the Watson Developer Cloud, which offers Watson services and APIs as well as useful documentation and tutorials, starter kits and access to the Watson developer community. IBM started slow and continued to evolve its Watson strategy for developers. The company started with just a few Watson partners and offered just a handful of Watson services.

Facebook Messenger now has 11,000 chatbots for you to try

#artificialintelligence

Facebook today release new statistics on the growth of chatbots on its Messenger app and announced new features related to chatbots. Since the chatbot platform launched in April, more than 11,000 bots have been added to Messenger, Facebook vice president of messaging products David Marcus wrote in a Facebook post. For some context, in May, Marcus said that "tens of thousands" of developers were working on Messenger bots. Also, more than 23,000 people have created accounts for the Bot Engine tool from wit.ai, Facebook's natural language processing service for developers, Marcus wrote. And Facebook now lets users rate Messenger chatbots, from one to five stars, and write reviews.

Artificial Intelligence Shoots Down EVRY Human Fighter Pilot

#artificialintelligence

A pilot A.I. developed by a doctoral graduate from the University of Cincinnati has shown that it can not only beat other A.I.s, but also a professional fighter pilot with decades of experience. In a series of flight combat simulations, the A.I. successfully evaded retired U.S. Air Force Colonel Gene "Geno" Lee, and shot him down every time. In a statement, Lee called it "the most aggressive, responsive, dynamic and credible A.I. I've seen to date." The fact that an AI downed a professional fighter pilot? Or the fact that the AI was developed by a graduate student?

Associated Press expands sports coverage with stories written by machines

#artificialintelligence

The rise of the machines continues this week with news that the Associated Press (AP) is expanding its baseball coverage through automated stories generated by algorithms. The New York-based nonprofit news agency has ramped up its partnership with Automated Insights, a Durham, Carolina-based company that uses artificial intelligence to analyze and transform big data into stories. The AP has worked with Automated Insights for a number of years already, with more than 3,000 computer-generated corporate earnings reports created over the past couple of years based on data supplied by Zacks Investment Research, and it has used automation in sports reports too. The AP also participated in a 5.5 million funding round into Automated Insights back in 2014. Automated Insights offers its Wordsmith A.I. platform to a number of big-name media companies, including Yahoo, and to the casual observer it may be difficult to know that a report wasn't written by a human.
