How Intel Sees AI Fitting In to the Connected World - Market Realist
In the previous part of the series, we learned about how 5G (fifth-generation) technology will transform network infrastructure and broaden the definition of wireless technology. Intel (INTC) is transforming its product portfolio accordingly. Data will have to be distributed through the fabric of the network to minimize the latency occurring due to the transmission of huge sums of it by IoT (Internet of Things) devices. As networks will be dealing with 5G and IoT devices, they need to be upgradable and extensible. The president of Intel's Client and IoT Businesses and Systems Architecture Group, Murthy Renduchintala, explained how the network can be made upgradable.
Japan to spend a billion on artificial intelligence
According to Nikkei.net, the Riken Center for advanced integrated intelligence research will open near Tokyo railway station and involve 100 researchers from companies including Toyota and NEC. The aim is to create AI that will match the intelligence of an average human being by the middle of this century. While previous attempts to create viable AI have foundered, the wire reports that high capacity computing, processing of big data and automated processing techniques will make it a viable technology. It's reported that an IBM Watson cognitive system can help diagnose treatment for people with cancer that are better than human doctors can devise.
Kawasaki to develop motorcycles having artificial intelligence ET Auto
NEW DELHI: Japanese two wheeler manufacturer Kawasaki Heavy Industries is going to develop next-generation motorcycles with ICT (Information and Communications Technology), including AI (Artificial Intelligence). The motorcycles being developed use the Emotion Generation Engine and Natural Language Dialogue System, which is enables man and machine to communicate by imbuing the machine with lifelike feelings and technology capable of recognising emotion by the sound of the speaker's voice. Informing about how the system will function, the company said that "Accessing Kawasaki's bank of analytical chassis and running data stored on a cloud-based data center or referencing the vast amount of information available on the Internet, the system will be able to offer the rider pertinent hints for enhanced riding enjoyment, or relay safety-related or reassuring advice as the situation dictates." The company further said that "Through repeated interaction, this kind of communication between rider and motorcycle will allow the motorcycle to develop a unique personality reflecting the individual idiosyncrasies of the rider. With mutual trust established, both rider and motorcycle will be able to improve and grow, offering an all-new kind of enjoyment."

Neural networks are very powerful tool and at the same time, it is not easy to use all its power. Now we are one step closer to it from F# and .NET. We will delegate model training to R using R Provider. Also we will use Deedle (that was announced some days ago) for handy data manipulation. I'm looking for insight or reading material on a question I don't have a satisfying answer for, although I might just be creating red herrings for myself. Do neural network models learn or memorize? What is the extent to which they can learn feature-functions underlying data, without somebody's previous preconceptions of that relation? There are relatively simple functions that represent this relation, invariant to rotation and translation. To my knowledge, a convolutional neural network requires training data for all three distinct cases - i.e., it would learn these as three separate patterns or features.

BIM - Japanese government to use drones and AI to raise construction efficiency
Japanese prime minister Shinzo Abe has unveiled a campaign to utilise emerging technologies, including drones and artificial intelligence, to increase productivity at construction sites by 20% by 2025. According to Japanese newspaper The Japan Times, Abe announced the plan at the inaugural meeting of a think tank tasked with formulating new growth strategy policies. The panel of government officials and industry experts is expected to announce details of the construction productivity strategy before the end of 2017. The government intends to ramp up the use of drones and AI to increase the efficiency of surveys on centrally funded infrastructure projects, such as tunnels, bridges and dams. Faced with an ageing population, Japan is already leading the world in advancing the use of autonomous vehicles, with construction drones set to be used to automate groundworks for the 2020 Olympic games.
