What I've learned from building an AI/ML accelerator from the ground-up

Just 5 months ago we started Zeroth . And this Sunday, September 25 will be the application deadline for my first cohort. I'm experienced with accelerator programs. Before Zeroth, I was at Techstars, first in New York and then starting the first international Techstars program in London alongside Jon Bradford and Jess Williamson. Through that experience, I worked with over 50 startups, managed over 120 mentors, and hired over 40 Associates and Hackstars.



Gorgonia

I released Gorgonia on Thursday. Gorgonia is a library like Theano or TensorFlow, but mainly written in Go. It provides the necessary primitives for creating and executing neural networks and machine learning algorithms. But the original version is about 80,000 LoC (though most of the lines of codes were different experimental variations of assembly code). I managed to cut down 50,000 LoC to something more manageable. In this post I want to outline the release of Gorgonia, and share some of the reasoning regarding the design of the library, as well as go thru some of the weirdness found in the library. Salesforce's Einstein deep learning platform aims to bring AI to the masses

Salesforce.com Inc.'s plans to enhance its sales and marketing software with artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities were first leaked by company CEO Marc Benioff several weeks ago. But yesterday's unveiling of Salesforce Einstein still caught everyone by surprise, stealing the show from rival firm Oracle Corp. just hours before its annual Oracle OpenWorld tech conference kicked off with Larry Ellison's keynote. Salesforce has managed to upstage Oracle in spectacular fashion with the announcement of Einstein, a new deep learning platform that the company says will become the foundation of all of its future Software-as-a-Service offerings. The platform, which was years in the making and supposedly cost hundreds of millions of dollars through a combination of acquisitions and in-house development, will be baked into just about every Salesforce product there is, with packages available for Sales, Service, Marketing, Analytics, Commerce, Community and IoT. Einstein will be added to some products for free, while others will be charged as add-ons, the company said.

Salesforce Einstein: Enterprise AI breakthrough, or CRM Clippy?

Salesforce has unveiled Einstein, a deep learning platform it hopes will form the foundation of all of its future SaaS offerings. Touting years of development and hundreds of millions of dollars in both in-house development and acquisitions, Einstein will be baked into pretty much every major product Salesforce offers. Salesforce is rolling out Sales, Service, Marketing, Commerce, Community, Analytics and IoT packages that will include the Einstein AI tools, in some cases for free and in others as charged add-ons. The roles played by Einstein will vary by service, but in most cases the aim is to add predictive and analytics capabilities to existing Salesforce services. One example is Sales, where Einstein will be used to help predict when a lead has a better chance of turning into a sale, or alerting salespeople when a contact might be considering a competitor.
