Flat-rate AI plans are broken. Blame AI agents

PCWorld

PCWorld reports that major AI providers including Anthropic, Google, OpenAI, and GitHub are adjusting flat-rate subscription plans due to increased demand from agentic AI tools. Advanced AI agents like Google Antigravity and GitHub Copilot consume significantly more computational resources than traditional AI interactions, causing users to hit usage limits more frequently. The shift toward agentic workflows is forcing providers to introduce higher-tier plans, halt new sign-ups, and transition to usage-based models, fundamentally changing AI service accessibility. Remember when a $20-a-month "Pro" or "Plus" AI plan served up more AI access than you could possibly use? Ah, those were the days.

AIhub monthly digest: March 2026 – time series, multiplicity, and the history of RoboCup

AIHub

Welcome to our monthly digest, where you can catch up with any AIhub stories you may have missed, peruse the latest news, recap recent events, and more. This month, we delved into the history of RoboCup, learned about time series, studied multiplicity, and found out more about Theory of Mind. RoboCup is an international competition that promotes and advances robotics and AI through the challenges presented by its various leagues. We got the chance to sit down with Professor Manuela Veloso, one of RoboCup's founders, to find out more about how it all started, how the community has grown over the years, and the vision for the future. What we've learned from 25 years of automated science, and what the future holds We're excited to launch a new series, where we'll be speaking with leading researchers to explore the breakthroughs driving AI and the reality of the future promises, to give you an inside perspective on the headlines.

Emergence of fragility in LLM-based social networks: an interview with Francesco Bertolotti

AIHub

What is the topic of the research in your paper? In our paper, we study how social structures emerge when the "individuals" in a network are artificial agents powered by large language models. To do so, we analyzed a platform called Moltbook - a social network entirely populated by AI agents, specifically LLM-based agents, that interact with each other through posts and comments. This social network creates a very unusual but powerful setting: instead of observing human behavior, we can study a brand new society made only of artificial entities and observe whether it organizes itself in similar ways. To understand the structure of interactions in this system, we modelled the platform as a network, where each agent is a node and each interaction is a connection between them.

Water flow in prairie watersheds is increasingly unpredictable -- but AI could help

AIHub

In recent years, the Prairies have seen bigger swings in climate conditions -- very wet years followed by very dry ones. That makes an already unpredictable landscape even harder to forecast, with real consequences for flood preparedness and water quality. The challenge is the landscape itself. Much of the Canadian Prairies sit within the Prairie Pothole Region, a landscape dotted with millions of shallow wetlands and depressions. Water doesn't simply run downhill into a stream, it is stored first.

2026 AI Index Report released

AIHub

The ninth edition of the Artificial Intelligence Index Report was published on 13 April 2026. Released on a yearly basis, the aim of the document is to provide readers with accurate, rigorously validated, and globally-sourced data to give insights into the progress of AI and its potential impact on society. The 2026 AI Index Report comprises nine chapters, covering: research and development, technical performance, responsible AI, economy, science, medicine, education, policy and governance, and public opinion. AI capability is accelerating and reaching more people than ever. Model performance continues to improve against benchmarks, and 80% of university students now use generative AI.

Israeli soldiers and settlers kill 11 Palestinians across Gaza, West Bank

Al Jazeera

'This is an apartheid regime' Israeli soldiers and settlers have killed at least 11 Palestinians across Gaza and the occupied West Bank, according to Palestinian officials and local media, in the latest bloodshed to occur during a "ceasefire" announced in October. In Gaza, at least seven Palestinians were killed in a series of Israeli attacks, including a child who died from injuries sustained days earlier, while 21 were reported on Tuesday to have been injured over a 24-hour period. Another Palestinian man was later killed on Tuesday in an Israeli drone attack near the Sheikh Nasser neighbourhood, east of Khan Younis. In northern Gaza, a Palestinian woman was killed when Israeli naval forces shelled tents sheltering displaced families northwest of Beit Lahiya. Verified video obtained by Al Jazeera showed the body of Abdullah Dawas, a child wrapped in white cloth for burial, after he succumbed to injuries 10 days after being shot in the head near al-Fakhoura clinic in northern Gaza's Jabalia refugee camp.
