AI is helping ease competition for scarce space on the airwaves

AIHub

Every time you make a phone call, stream a video or connect to Wi-Fi, your device is sending and receiving invisible signals through the air. So are your baby monitor, garage door opener, your GPS, the weather-monitoring satellites and the radars keeping planes safely apart. All of these rely on the same invisible resource: the radio spectrum. The demand for wireless data - driven by smartphones, video streaming and billions of connected devices - keeps growing, making available spectrum scarce. But it doesn't have to remain that way.

Mission set to blast off for Mars to grab a piece of its moon

BBC News

Image caption, The spacecraft will head to Mars's larger moon, Phobos A space mission is set to launch on Monday that will attempt to grab a piece of Mars' moon Phobos and bring it back to Earth. If it is successful, this will become the first time a sample has been returned from Mars or its moons to be analysed in laboratories here on Earth. The spacecraft will blast off from Japan and arrive at Phobos in August 2027. It is hoped that the Mars Moons Exploration (MMX) mission, which is led by the Japanese Space Agency, will solve the mystery of how Mars's moons formed. Prof Sara Russell, from the Natural History Museum, who is the MMX mission's deputy for sample analysis, said: There hasn't yet been a successful mission to go to Phobos and bring a bit back to Earth.

BBC News

Anthropic says it will commit 5% of its shares to'public benefit fund' Artificial intelligence (AI) giant Anthropic says it will commit 5% of its shares to a fund that will make donations for the public good. Anthropic says it will commit 5% of shares to 'public benefit' fund

Al Jazeera

Anthropic says it will commit 5% of shares to'public benefit' fund Share Anthropic says it will commit 5% of shares to'public benefit' fund on social media Anthropic has pledged to commit 5 percent of its shares to a new fund dedicated to the public good, with plans to increase the contribution as the artificial intelligence giant's market value grows. The creator of the AI assistant Claude announced the new "Anthropic Public Benefit Fund" on Sunday as tech firms face intense scrutiny over the potential dangers posed by the frontier technology. "Because of the way the Fund is structured, the more Anthropic grows, the larger the share of the company that can be dedicated expressly to the public good," the San Francisco-based firm said. "It is common practice for tech companies to offer escalating compensation awards to their executives. We are instead directing that equity to the public benefit."
