Russia warns foreigners to leave Kyiv as it prepares 'systematic strikes'
Russia warns foreigners to leave Kyiv as it prepares'systematic strikes' Russia has warned it plans to launch a "series of systematic strikes" on defence industrial facilities in Kyiv, and urged foreign citizens to leave the Ukrainian capital. In a statement, the Ministry of Defence said the strikes are in response to a Ukrainian drone attack last week that struck a student dorm in Starobilsk in the occupied Luhansk region, killing at least 18 people. Moscow, which launched a full-scale invasion of its neighbour four years ago and claims four of Ukraine's eastern regions as its own, has branded those attacks as "terrorism" and responded with large missile and drone launches. The Russian Foreign Ministry said in Monday's statement that the strike on Starobilsk signalled "the last straw" and that Russia will launch a systematic series of strikes in response, which will target "specific sites where UAVs are designed, manufactured, programmed, and prepared for use". Noting that such facilities "are scattered throughout Kyiv," the statement said it was warning "foreign citizens, including personnel of diplomatic missions and international organisations, to leave the city as soon as possible".
Pope Leo says AI must be 'disarmed' in first major teaching
Pope Leo says AI must be'disarmed' in first major teaching Pope Leo has presented the first major teaching document of his papacy, warning that artificial intelligence needs to be disarmed. The word is strong, I know, but deliberately chosen because this moment needs words capable of attracting attention, the Pope said. Encyclicals are technically letters to Catholic bishops, but over recent decades the missives have become messages to the world from a Pope. While this letter was largely focused on AI, Pope Leo also included one of the strongest, most comprehensive apologies from the Vatican for the Catholic Church's role in slavery. It was impossible not to feel deep sorrow when contemplating the immense suffering and humiliation endured by so many, the Pope wrote, adding that he sincerely asked for pardon in the name of the Church.

Satechi DotDisk SSD enclosure review: Svelte, fan-cooled 80Gbps storage
When you purchase through links in our articles, we may earn a small commission. The DotDisk is by far the most portable 80Gbps enclosure I've reviewed thanks to fan cooling. Despite its diminutive size, you never need to worry about thermal throttling with the handsome Satechi DotDisk 80Gbps enclosure thanks to an internal fan. But it's pricey -- as are all 80Gbps enclosures. It's uniquely portable, as it employs active cooling in the form of a small fan rather than the bulky passive cooling fins most 80Gbps enclosures feature. Yet, despite its svelte profile, the DotDisk proved a top-flight performer.

Pope Leo calls for AI to serve humanity and not concentrate power
The Pontiff released a 42,300-word document outlining the dangers (and benefits) of AI. Pope Leo XIV has taken a stronger stand against AI. On Monday, Leo released his first papal encyclical -- an almost 400-year-old tradition in which the Catholic Church shares its perspective on an issue. In this case, over about 42,300 words (in the English version), the Pope warned of the misconception of equating this type of'intelligence' with that of human beings. These systems merely imitate certain functions of human intelligence.

Your dusty USB stick deserves a second life as a PC rescue kit
PCWorld highlights how old USB drives can be transformed into powerful PC rescue kits using portable applications that run without installation. Essential tools include bootable OS creators like Rufus and Ventoy, antivirus scanners like ClamWin and Stinger, and system repair utilities. These portable rescue kits enable tech support across multiple computers, offering hardware monitoring, network diagnostics, and Windows optimization capabilities. Portable apps are applications and tools that can be started directly upon clicking them, with no prior installation needed. The advantage of this is that the programs are immediately ready for use and can be started from any storage drive -- including a USB flash drive. These useful tools are then available for analyzing and maintaining any computer you slap the flash drive into, making them utterly invaluable for informal tech support duties. Let's take a look at the best portable applications for hardware analysis and system tuning, as well as a basic setup with media player, image editing, and word processing tools.
The AI Era Is Creating a Bug Hunting Arms Race
As attackers ramp up their AI exploit development, the search for software vulnerabilities is changing rapidly. A decade ago, programs to reward researchers for submitting software vulnerability findings were just starting to go mainstream. Vulnerability disclosure and "bug bounty" programs represented a paradigm shift years in the making--moving institutions from hostility and defensiveness about security research findings to acknowledgement that receiving input and releasing fixes was necessary. When Apple finally announced a bug bounty in 2016, the top reward was $200,000. It rose to $1 million in 2019 and $2 million last year .
