Dual-lens Baseus X1 Pro solar security camera drops to new lowest price

PCWorld

When you purchase through links in our articles, we may earn a small commission. The Baseus X1 Pro has two auto-tracking lenses and a sun-tracking solar panel. Use code PCWX1PRO at checkout to get it for $130 (normally $160). The Baseus X1 Pro solar-powered security camera is unlike anything else in its tier for one big reason: it has two lenses, each with its own motor, so you can automatically track and monitor different areas at the same time. With two lenses, the X1 Pro covers a much wider area than normal security cameras that only have a single lens. Both lenses can auto-track their own individual subjects at the same time, so it's especially good if you mount it on one corner of your house, allowing you to keep watch over two entire sides with a single device.

The Download: how the World Cup ball will fly and OpenAI's "super app"

MIT Technology Review

The Download: how the World Cup ball will fly and OpenAI's "super app" Plus: OpenAI plans to turn ChatGPT into a'super app' before its IPO. Why this year's World Cup ball may not fly as far Much is new about this month's FIFA World Cup tournament. It hosts more teams than ever before. It's the first to occur in three different host countries. And, like every World Cup for over half a century, it will employ a football with a brand-new design. Through wind-tunnel experiments, researchers found that long-distance kicks with Adidas's new Trionda ball might not travel as far as they did in the past.

Protect and encrypt your files with this free app

When you purchase through links in our articles, we may earn a small commission. Cryptomator makes it easy to lock down files stored locally or in Google Drive, Dropbox, and other services. Most people think about encrypting files only when they upload something to the cloud. But there are plenty of files sitting on your own computer that deserve the same protection. That's why I think Cryptomator is such a useful tool.

HP OmniBook 3 review: Battery life is the main attraction

PCWorld

When you purchase through links in our articles, we may earn a small commission. The HP OmniBook 3 16 has good battery life and strong multi-core CPU performance in a light 16-inch chassis, but its design is a snooze and it's not great for 3D graphics. At risk of dating myself, I'll admit the word "omni" always reminds me of a particular nerdy reference: the OmniMech from the Mechwarrior PC games. Versatile yet all-around great, OmniMechs ruled the game's virtual battlefield. That sets a high mark for HP's 16-inch OmniBook 3 to hurdle, and while the laptop does have strengths, it also suffers from weaknesses that don't seem very "omni" to me.

Mammotion Luba 3 AWD review: This robot mower conquered my chaotic lawn

PCWorld

When you purchase through links in our articles, we may earn a small commission. It's not perfect, but it definitely surprised me The Mammotion Luba 3 AWD turns out to be a lot more capable than expected, handling a rough, awkward yard surprisingly well, even if the app and setup aren't always smooth. Before testing, I never gave robot lawn mowers the time of day. They just seemed like expensive gadgets for people who didn't want to deal with mowing. After a few weeks with the Mammotion Luba 3 AWD, that assumption didn't really hold up.

Briefly Noted Book Reviews

The New Yorker

"The Lost Soldiers," "Homebound," "Once Upon a Time There Was Truth," and "My World Is Melting." The year is 1919, the midst of Bolshevik takeover in Ukraine, and twenty-eight Red Army soldiers have vanished into thin air, last seen at a bathhouse. Kolechko must track them down. He gets little help from the absurd locals, who range from obstinately useless to selfishly malicious. Kolechko is a kind of anti-Poirot--a fairly conventional man whose powers of detection lie not in a dazzling intuition but in a supernatural severed ear, which has a bug-like ability to pick up dialogue.

Why this year's World Cup ball may not fly as far

MIT Technology Review

Why this year's World Cup ball may not fly as far A team of outside researchers has been studying how Adidas's redesigned soccer ball cuts through the air. Much is new about this month's upcoming FIFA World Cup tournament, which will be held in the US, Canada, and Mexico. It hosts more teams than ever before. It's the first to occur in three different host countries. And, like predecessor cups for over half a century, it will employ a soccer ball with a brand-new design. One group of researchers that has been testing the physics of World Cup balls for the past 20 years recently studied this new entry, called the Trionda.
