Russian attacks kill 5 in Ukraine as Zelenskyy hails talks with US envoys

Al Jazeera

A pregnant woman and two others were killed in Russian strikes on Ukraine's northeastern Kharkiv region, while two people were killed in Donetsk, Ukrainian officials have said. The overnight missile attacks on the town of Chuhuiv also injured six people and caused damage to residential buildings and shops, the regional prosecutor's office said on Tuesday. Photos shared online by officials show a burning building and burnt-out cars. Two people were killed in Bilozerske and Druzhkivka on Monday, Vadym Filashkin, head of the Donetsk state administration, said on Facebook, with 11 others injured in Sloviansk and Shabelkivka. The strikes come after Ukraine intensified its long-range drone strikes on Russian oil facilities, prompting fuel shortages, while Russia conducted large air attacks on the country.

David Sinclair plans to test whole-body rejuvenation drugs in the XPrize competition

MIT Technology Review

The outspoken longevity scientist David Sinclair has been predicting that one day, you'll go to the doctor and get a prescription that will make you 10 years younger. Now has learned that he has plans to launch human tests of an oral reprogramming drug as part of a $101 million competition organized by the XPrize Foundation. The foundation is offering cash awards to teams able to "restore" a person to an earlier apparent age, as measured by improvements in immune, cognitive, and muscle function. The grand prize goes to any team able to show a 10-year (or greater) relative improvement after one year of treatment. Reached by phone, Sinclair, a biologist at Harvard Medical School, confirmed that he plans to give an oral drug mixture to volunteers in a bid to seek "evidence for age restoration in humans."

Eight Predictions for the Future of Higher Education

The New Yorker

The next decade won't be Armageddon. But it will bring a lot of change. When I started this six-week-long series by asking whether my daughter would be attending college in 2035, the year she turns eighteen, I was pretty sure I already knew the answer. Nine years is a short amount of time, and something disastrous--or, I suppose, downright liberatory--would need to happen in the culture to make it unlikely for her to shuttle off to some campus after high school. Still, thinking about the future of higher education has convinced me that her path to a bachelor's degree will be very different from the one I began in 1998.

Five things you need to know about AI

MIT Technology Review

At SXSW London last week I gave a talk called "Five things you need to know about AI," in which I shared what I think are the biggest themes in AI right now. I pulled a few things from our first AI10 list, an annual guide to the most important trends in this buzzy world, but I also veered off on a number of tangents. In my half-hour slot, I tried to cover the key talking points that I think help to make sense of what's going on in tech--and thus the economy--today.
