New Hearing Aid Company, Foretell, Brings in Steve Martin and Others as Fans
Well, Who Do You Know? AI-powered startup Fortell has become a secret handshake for the privileged hearing-impaired crowd who swear by the product. Now, it wants to be in your ears. A secret is percolating at dinner parties, salons, and cocktail gatherings among the august New York City elite. It's whispered in the circles of financial masters of the universe, Hollywood stars, and owners of sports teams. Many haven't--or if they did hear, they might not have made out the words through noisy cross-conversations. Once they do know--particularly if they're boomers--they want it desperately. Fortell is a hearing aid, one that claims to use AI to provide a dramatically superior aural experience. The chosen few included in its beta test claim that it seems to top the performance of high-end devices they'd been unhappily using. These testers have made pilgrimages to Fortell's headquarters on the fifth floor of a WeWork facility in New York City's trendy SoHo neighborhood, where they were fitted for the hearing aids--which from the outside look pretty much like standard, over-the-ear, teardrop-shaped devices. But the big moment comes when a Fortell staffer takes them down to street level.
Nike, Superdry and Lacoste ads banned over misleading green claims
Adverts for Nike, Superdry and Lacoste have been banned for making misleading claims about their green credentials. The UK's advertising watchdog challenged the brands over the use of the word sustainable in paid-for Google ads which were not backed up by evidence of their sustainability. The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) identified three adverts from the retailers promising customers sustainable materials, sustainable style and sustainable clothing. The UK's advertising code states that the basis of claims about environmental sustainability must be clear and supported by a high level of substantiation. In each case, it asked the companies for evidence to back up the claims about the sustainability of the products.
South Korea parliament clears 2026 budget to power AI-led growth
South Korea has one of the lowest debt burdens among developed nations, but its debt-to-GDP ratio has been climbing. South Korea's parliament approved a 727.9 trillion won ($495.8 billion) budget for next year on Tuesday, endorsing President Lee Jae Myung's sweeping plan to revive the economy through aggressive investment in artificial intelligence and other strategic sectors. The outlay represents an 8.1% increase from this year's initial budget plan and will increase at a rate more than triple the pace of expansion of the 2025 budget. The acceleration comes as the country confronts U.S. tariff pressure and growing welfare costs associated with one of the world's fastest-aging populations. Lee has vowed to transform Korea's industrial base, defense capabilities and public services by more than tripling AI-related investment to 10.1 trillion won next year.

Indie video games developed on modest budgets by individuals and small teams are gaining traction in Japan for their innovative ideas and variety often absent from major studio titles. Advances in development tools have helped lower barriers to entry, spurring a surge in creators and driving rapid market growth. Competition has intensified, however, and only a handful of titles achieve commercial success. The Tokyo Game Show 2025 took place in September at the Makuhari Messe convention center in Chiba. A short walk from the towering booths of major publishers such as Square Enix and Sega was the Indie Game Area, a cluster of compact stands outfitted with little more than personal computers and monitors.
WorldMM: Dynamic Multimodal Memory Agent for Long Video Reasoning

Recent advances in video large language models have demonstrated strong capabilities in understanding short clips. However, scaling them to hours- or days-long videos remains highly challenging due to limited context capacity and the loss of critical visual details during abstraction. Existing memory-augmented methods mitigate this by leveraging textual summaries of video segments, yet they heavily rely on text and fail to utilize visual evidence when reasoning over complex scenes. Moreover, retrieving from fixed temporal scales further limits their flexibility in capturing events that span variable durations. To address this, we introduce WorldMM, a novel multimodal memory agent that constructs and retrieves from multiple complementary memories, encompassing both textual and visual representations. WorldMM comprises three types of memory: episodic memory indexes factual events across multiple temporal scales, semantic memory continuously updates high-level conceptual knowledge, and visual memory preserves detailed information about scenes. During inference, an adaptive retrieval agent iteratively selects the most relevant memory source and leverages multiple temporal granularities based on the query, continuing until it determines that sufficient information has been gathered. WorldMM significantly outperforms existing baselines across five long video question-answering benchmarks, achieving an average 8.4% performance gain over previous state-of-the-art methods, showing its effectiveness on long video reasoning.
Fast Gaussian Process Approximations for Autocorrelated Data

This paper is concerned with the problem of how to speed up computation for Gaussian process models trained on autocorrelated data. The Gaussian process model is a powerful tool commonly used in nonlinear regression applications. Standard regression modeling assumes random samples and an independently, identically distributed noise. Various fast approximations that speed up Gaussian process regression work under this standard setting. But for autocorrelated data, failing to account for autocorrelation leads to a phenomenon known as temporal overfitting that deteriorates model performance on new test instances. To handle autocorrelated data, existing fast Gaussian process approximations have to be modified; one such approach is to segment the originally correlated data points into blocks in which the blocked data are de-correlated. This work explains how to make some of the existing Gaussian process approximations work with blocked data. Numerical experiments across diverse application datasets demonstrate that the proposed approaches can remarkably accelerate computation for Gaussian process regression on autocorrelated data without compromising model prediction performance.
