OpenAI launches GPT Image 1.5 with faster generation and smarter edits
OpenAI launched GPT Image 1.5, delivering 4x faster image generation and improved editing accuracy for ChatGPT and API users worldwide. PCWorld reports the update includes a new creative studio mode with an image tab for enhanced editing capabilities and filter applications. The accelerated release aims to compete with Google's recent AI advancements while addressing consistency issues in consecutive image adjustments. OpenAI has launched its newest image model GPT Image 1.5, which offers up to 4 times faster image generation, more accurate image editing, and better compliance with user instructions. One of the more noticeable improvements is that the new version should provide more consistent results between consecutive edits. For example, when adjusting lighting, facial expressions, or color tone on a specific image, GPT Image should no longer make drastic unwanted changes--something many AI image tools have difficulty with.

Border Patrol Bets on Small Drones to Expand US Surveillance Reach
Federal records show CBP is moving from testing small drones to making them standard surveillance tools, expanding a network that can follow activity in real time and extend well beyond the border. US Customs and Border Protection is quietly doubling down on a surveillance strategy built around human-portable drones, according to federal contracting records reviewed by WIRED. The shift is pushing border enforcement toward a distributed system that can track activity in real time and, critics warn, may extend well beyond the border. New market research conducted this month shows that, rather than relying on larger, centralized drone platforms, CBP is concentrating on lightweight uncrewed aircraft that can be launched quickly by small teams, remain operational under environmental stress, and relay surveillance data directly to frontline units. The documents emphasize portability, fast setup, and integration with equipment already used by border patrol.

Technology Engineering 2,500 'high-risk' U.S. dams are sinking into the ground Radar shows that the damage may be out of sight for inspectors. Breakthroughs, discoveries, and DIY tips sent every weekday. Dams across the United States are in dire need of repairs, and the critical infrastructure may be even worse off than engineers anticipated. According to geoscientists, over 2,500 of the more than 16,700 structures in the country are classified as high hazard potentials and in "poor condition." This classification means that the dams that would cause significant death and destruction if compromised.
From Nvidia to OpenAI, Silicon Valley woos Westminster as ex-politicians take tech firm roles
W hen the billionaire chief executive of AI chipmaker Nvidia threw a party in central London for Donald Trump's state visit in September, the power imbalance between Silicon Valley and British politicians was vividly exposed. Jensen Huang hastened to the stage after meetings at Chequers and rallied his hundreds of guests to cheer on the power of AI. In front of a huge Nvidia logo, he urged the venture capitalists before him to herald "a new industrial revolution", announced billions of pounds in AI investments and, like Willy Wonka handing out golden tickets, singled out some lucky recipients in the room. "If you want to get rich, this is where you want to be," he declared. But his biggest party trick was a surprise guest waiting in the wings.
Annke FCD800 security cam review: A single camera that sees all

Not long ago, panoramic security camera coverage required installing multiple units and you'd still end up with blind spots. Then dual-lens models came along and promised to fix that by stitching two views into one wide shot.
The Roomba Was a Disappointment
The best-known manufacturer of autonomous vacuums declared bankruptcy this week, and no one should be surprised. The home-vacuum robot began, like most things, with war. In August 1990, the same month and year Saddam Hussein invaded Kuwait, three MIT roboticists incorporated the company that would eventually become iRobot, the maker of the Roomba. In its first decade, iRobot began to assemble a small-droid A-team for the theater of combat. The Ariel defused mines; the PackBot handled bomb disposal.
Rare polar bear adoption could save cub's life
Rare polar bear adoption could save cub's life The cubs were born into a well-studied'celebration' of polar bears in Canada. Breakthroughs, discoveries, and DIY tips sent every weekday. Scientists in Churchill, Manitoba, Canada (aka the polar bear capital of the world) have confirmed that a wild female polar bear has adopted a cub that is not her own. This rare behavior was captured on cameras during the polar bear's annual migration along Western Hudson Bay . Researchers from Environment and Climate Change Canada and Polar Bears International spotted the mother bear (designated as bear X33991) during spring 2025, when she came out of her maternity den.
