Robot seized by German police after allegedly groping teenage girl

BBC News

German police have launched an investigation into two teenagers accused of controlling a robot that allegedly groped a 16-year-old girl. Police in Cologne have confiscated the red and gold robot that allegedly grabbed the girl's buttocks and made thrusting motions against her before she screamed and moved away. North Rhine Westphalia Police said the robot's 16-year-old owner and his companion, 19, are believed to have streamed the incident live on social media and commented on it. According to a police statement on Facebook, the 120cm (3.9ft) tall device approached the girl from behind while she was with her friends close to midnight local time (23:00 BST) on Saturday. The girl was in front of a fast-food outlet near the city centre when the incident took place, police said.

An OpenAI Employee Allegedly Used a Chatbot to Help Plant a Recording Device at the Office

WIRED

Chatbot prompts reveal the engineer's alleged efforts to set up a covert listening device days before one was found in a meeting room used by high-level executives. An engineer at OpenAI allegedly concealed an audio recording device in a piece of toilet paper and attached it behind a monitor inside an executive conference room at one of the company's San Francisco offices, according to a criminal complaint unsealed on Tuesday. Abdulrahman Alfozan, who federal prosecutors describe as a 35-year-old Saudi Arabian national and US permanent resident, allegedly spent several weeks querying an unspecified "productivity agent" and an "AI chatbot" to plan his alleged surveillance operation. He used an internal OpenAI tool to ask about meetings scheduled in the targeted conference room. He also appears to have used a chatbot account associated with his spouse to ask various technical questions about setting up a covert audio recording device, according to prosecutors and the court filing.

Royal Mail losing 400 postal workers a week, says union

BBC News

About 400 postmen and women are leaving Royal Mail per week, according to the Communication Workers Union (CWU), who claims this number has gone up since the company introduced a new delivery system earlier this year. The CWU says the firm had been losing about 330 postal staff a week from a workforce of 83,000 before it rolled out DM26, which reorganised routes to improve delivery performance. The union claims the new system is not working in hundreds of offices, and BBC Your Voice has heard from staff warning of a nightmare Christmas ahead as the number of parcels increases. Royal Mail says the reforms are part of its plan to deliver a more efficient and financially sustainable service. Over the last year we've been in touch with more than 30 postal staff in all four nations of the UK, as they have switched over to DM26.

The deeply uncomfortable film forces audiences to confront what types of stories we tell ourselves about who has economic and political power.
