World's oldest shipwreck found off coast of Turkey

World's oldest shipwreck found off coast of Turkey To play this video you need to enable JavaScript in your browser. The world's oldest shipwreck has been discovered off the coast of Turkey, archaeologists say. They have dated it to between 4,400 and 4,700 years old, which is the Early Bronze Age, and is around the same time that the Great Pyramid was being built. The ship's wooden structure has not survived, but the ceramic storage pots it was carrying were lying on the sea floor and, remarkably, some still contain traces of what they held inside. The archaeologists who found the ship say it was about 10m in length and was a trade vessel carrying cargo across the Mediterranean Sea.

Not building third runway would be 'huge missed opportunity', warns Heathrow boss

BBC News

Not building third runway would be'huge missed opportunity', warns Heathrow boss Not building a third runway at Heathrow Airport would be a huge missed opportunity for the UK, the boss of the country's busiest airport has warned. Thomas Woldbye told BBC Radio 4's Today programme it would be good to know the government's position on the project, after Prime Minister Andy Burnham refused to say whether he backed expansion. The airport's chief executive said if its owners could not invest in a third runway, the money will be invested somewhere else in the world, suggesting a decision would be made in the new year. The Department for Transport said it was reviewing responses to a consultation and was considering the appropriate next steps. A spokesperson added that the government supported airport expansion across the country where this can contribute to growth and opportunity, while meeting the tests on the environment.

Russell T Davies criticises BBC boss's 'clumsy' AI Doctor Who comments

BBC News

Longtime Doctor Who writer and showrunner Russell T Davies has criticised the new BBC director general over comments he made about an AI-generated episode of the show. Matt Brittin told a Royal Television Society conference in September that he had been sent a pretty good 50-minute unofficial Doctor Who episode. That's a clumsy thing to say in an industry where he's got writers and artists and it specifically affects people, they're the first to take the blow, Davies told BBC Radio 4's The Media Show. Addressing criticism he has received, Brittin told a staff meeting last week he was attempting to make a point around the pace of change while stressing he believed in human creativity. The director general joked he had got into trouble over what he had said, but added: I was just trying to make the point: Look at the pace of change and what this stuff can do.

Russian strikes hit key power plant in Kyiv, Zelensky says

BBC News

A key energy facility supplying Kyiv with heating and electricity has been hit in a Russian ballistic missile attack, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has said. Darnytska CHP-4, or CHPP-4, and a residential building were hit in a strike the president said came with no early warning from our partners. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said two people had been killed and 21 injured in the missile strike on the apartment block late on Tuesday. He said several energy facilities in Kyiv had been hit without giving more detail. Kyiv has reported multiple Russian strikes since US President Donald Trump said an energy ceasefire had been agreed by Russia and Ukraine two days ago.
