Samsung to launch artificial intelligence for its upcoming Galaxy S8
If you are bored with Google Assistant and want to try a new Artificial Intelligence (AI) based app, then make up your plans for buying the next powerful smartphone from Samsung, because the company is working to add its AI app on its upcoming device. Yes, the Galaxy S8 will come with Samsung's own artificial intelligence service. According to the details, the South Korean smartphone manufacturer will add a voice-assistant called "Viv" into the Galaxy S8. The users will be able to control their home appliances and wearables by using this app. Moreover, this AI will let the users order food, add appointments to the calendar, set the alarm, and do a lot of other things on their Galaxy S8.
Google's New Hardware Strategy: Actually Make Money
Technology companies like to cite computer scientist Alan Kay's famous quote that "People who are really serious about software should make their own hardware." These days, Google's motto could be, "People who are really serious about AI should make their own hardware--and sell it at a premium." That appears to be the strategy behind the Pixel, the first Google-designed smartphone, which was released on October 20. Prior to the Pixel, Google offered a series of Nexus-branded smartphones that it developed with smartphone makers and sold online, at prices that essentially covered its costs. But while the Nexus phones supported the company's primary business of online advertising by getting more people to use Google services, the Pixel seems to be geared toward monetizing Google's AI initiatives, specifically its efforts to build a virtual assistant that will act as a user's "own personal Google" and provide a consistent experience across an entire line of Google-designed gadgets.
Samsung to launch AI digital assistant with Galaxy S8
Samsung plans to launch an artificial intelligence digital assistant with its upcoming Galaxy S8 phone, the company said Sunday according to Reuters. The announcement comes a month after Samsung revealed it had agreed to acquire the artificial intelligence startup behind Viv -- a voice assistant that aims to handle everyday tasks for you all on its own. Samsung plans to incorporate the platform into its line of Galaxy phones, as well as home appliances and wearable devices, Reuters reported. Artificial intelligence, a term used for the ability of a machine, computer or system to exhibit humanlike intelligence, is widely expected to represent the next frontier of computing. With that in mind, AI-powered voice assistants have suddenly become all the rage, offering a hands-free and more natural way to ask questions, find information and manage busy lives.

Samsung on Sunday said it will bring an artificial intelligence digital assistant to its upcoming Galaxy S8 smartphone, as the phone giant looks to recover after its massive Galaxy Note 7 blunder. The digital assistant will allow Galaxy S8 users to perform tasks like ordering food or making a calendar appointment, without having to launch third-party applications. Users will simply be able to speak to the digital assistant. Samsung acquired Viv Labs in October and is expected to use the start-up's AI technology on the Galaxy S8. Viv Labs was founded by the same entrepreneurs who sold Siri to Apple.
Samsung's Galaxy S8 will include an AI assistant
Samsung isn't wasting any time before it makes use of Viv's artificial intelligence know-how. In a an indirect confirmation of rumors, the tech giant has revealed that the upcoming Galaxy S8 will include an AI assistant as one of its star attractions. It's not offering clues as to what this virtual helper will do, but it will let developers "attach and upload services" to extend the AI's functionality beyond what you get out of the box. That's not much different than what Apple and Google are offering for their own assistants, but it may be what Samsung isn't talking about that's special -- Viv can create its own programs and understand complex intent in a way many AIs can't. However, a recent Wall Street Journal report claims that Samsung delayed development of the S8 by weeks to help identify the Galaxy Note 7's battery fire problem, potentially pushing back the unveiling beyond the usual February/March window. It's unusual for Samsung to explicitly discuss future smartphones months in advance.
Her best friend died. So she rebuilt him -- using artificial intelligence.
When the engineers had at last finished their work, Eugenia Kuyda opened a console on her laptop and began to type. "This is your digital monument." It had been three months since Roman Mazurenko, Kuyda's closest friend, had died. Kuyda had spent that time gathering up his old text messages, setting aside the ones that felt too personal, and feeding the rest into a neural network built by developers at her artificial intelligence startup. She had struggled with whether she was doing the right thing by bringing him back this way.

The world's top smartphone maker in October announced the acquisition of Viv Labs, a firm run by a co-creator of Apple's Siri voice assistant program. Samsung plans to integrate the San Jose-based company's AI platform, called Viv, into the Galaxy smartphones and expand voice-assistant services to home appliances and wearable technology devices. Samsung is counting on the Galaxy S8 to help revive smartphone momentum after the discontinuation of fire-prone Galaxy Note 7s, which will hit its profit by $5.4 billion over three quarters through the first quarter of 2017. Investors and analysts say the Galaxy S8 must be a strong device in order for Samsung to win back customers and revive earnings momentum. Samsung did not comment on what types of services would be offered through the AI assistant that will be launched on the Galaxy S8, which is expected to go on sale early next year.

But the new AI platform will enable consumers to do things that they would usually do through a separate third party application," Samsung reportedly said in a statement. Samsung, which plans to launch the Galaxy S8 early next year, recently announced the acquisition of the San Jose, California-based AI company Viv Labs, which was founded by the creators of Apple's Siri service.
