World's first remote tattoo is commissioned in real-time using a 5G-powered robotic arm

Daily Mail - Science & tech

The world's first remote tattoo was completed by a 5G-powered robotic arm fitted with a tiny needle. Tattoo artist Wes Thomas drew the design on a mannequin arm while a robot in another location copied his motions on Dutch actress Stijn Fransen's wrist. The final result is a'minimalist' design that honors Fransen's love out the outdoors that has been dubbed the'Impossible Tattoo.' The procedure was commissioned by T-Mobile to show off the speed and reliability of its high-speed network, which was filmed for a three-minute documentary. A Dutch tattoo artist performed the world's first remote tattoo, prodding a mannequin in one location while a 5G-powered robot arm inked a subject in another.

Taking A Quantum Leap into the 5th Industrial Revolution - Coruzant Technologies

#artificialintelligence

Throughout history we have experienced four industrial revolutions that profoundly reshaped the way we lived, worked, and educated future generations. We progressively advanced from mechanization, to electrification, automation, globalization, and digitalization. These were all possible due to the design, development and deployment of novel technologies which had transformative impact during each of those eras such as steam engines, electricity, combustion engines, computers, internet and more recently robotics, AI, IoT, blockchain, nanotechnology, 3D printing, bio-implants, genomics, virtual reality, augmented reality, extends reality, etc. So which technology will cause the next major disruption and drive the onset of the 5th industrial revolution? Within a relatively short time period we have enjoyed the benefits of 1G to use the first cell phones, 2G to send text messages, 3G to surf the web and 4G to offer the speeds of today. We are currently in the midst of deploying 5G worldwide which uses high frequency millimeter wavelengths and will allow us incredible speeds, low latency and greater bandwidth.

Biggest influencers in robotics in Q4 2020: The top individuals to follow

#artificialintelligence

GlobalData research has found the top influencers in robotics based on their performance and engagement online. Using research from GlobalData's Influencer platform, Verdict has named ten of the most influential people in robotics on Twitter during Q4 2020. Ronald Van Loon is the principal analyst and CEO of the Intelligent World, an analyst and influencer network that enables experts and businesses to interact and collaborate with each other and new audiences. He is regarded as a notable expert in data analytics and digital transformation. Loon is also an advisory board member for Simplilearn, an online platform for digital skills training and has previously worked as the director of Advertisement, an information technology and services company.

Symbolic Reinforcement Learning for Safe RAN Control

In order to express desired (SRL) architecture for safe control in Radio Access Network (RAN) specifications to the network into consideration, LTL is used applications. In our automated tool, a user can select a high-level (see [2, 10, 12, 13]), due to the fact that it provides a powerful mathematical safety specifications expressed in Linear Temporal Logic (LTL) to formalism for such purpose. Our proposed demonstration shield an RL agent running in a given cellular network with aim exhibits the following attributes: of optimizing network performance, as measured through certain (1) a general automatic framework from LTL specification user Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). In the proposed architecture, input to the derivation of the policy that fulfills it; at the same network safety shielding is ensured through model-checking techniques time, blocking the control actions that violate the specification; over combined discrete system models (automata) that are (2) novel system dynamics abstraction to companions Markov Decision abstracted through reinforcement learning. We demonstrate the Processes (MDP) which is computationally efficient; user interface (UI) helping the user set intent specifications to the (3) UI development that allows the user to graphically access all architecture and inspect the difference in allowed and blocked actions.

What You Need For Mitigating Risk Of Natural Disasters

#artificialintelligence

The United Nations Agencies are tackling natural disaster management using artificial intelligence (AI) with a new 2021 Focus Group on AI for Natural Disaster Management (FG-AI4NDM). The ITU focuses on information and communications technologies (ICT) and their support of the United Nations 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). As noted by ITU, "facilitate international connectivity in communications networks, we allocate global radio spectrum and satellite orbits, develop the technical standards that ensure networks and technologies seamlessly interconnect, and strive to improve access to ICTs to underserved communities worldwide. Every time you make a phone call via the mobile, access the Internet or send an email, you are benefitting from the work of ITU." Relatable standards work would be in video compression (H26X series), phone area codes, performance standards in AI for healthcare, the phonetic alphabet used in radio communications, and the term "Internet of Things (IoT)" was originally coined by the ITU. As noted by WMO, "behaviour of the Earth's atmosphere, its interaction with the land and oceans, the weather and climate it produces, and the resulting distribution of water resources."

Artificial Intelligence Revolutionizing the Smartphone Industry

#artificialintelligence

Artificial intelligence (AI) is on the verge to unleash its potential impact in the smartphone industry. Isn't it amazing to find how smartphones when integrated with AI have the capability of making their own choices as per the environment? Smartphones have become smarter than ever before, and with AI on the rise, the features could be limitless. However, with AI integration, your smartphone will only get better. From offering better protection to providing lower latency and efficiency improvement, your phone can make its choice without having the need to configure them.

SARDO Is a Smartphone-Sniffing Search and Rescue Drone

#artificialintelligence

For anyone who has ever misplaced their iPhone, Apple's "Find My" app is a game-changer that borders on pure magic. Sign into the app, tap a button to sound an alarm on your MIA device, and, within seconds, it'll emit a loud noise -- even if your phone is set on silent mode -- that allows you to go find the missing handset. Yeah, it's usually stuck behind your sofa cushions or left facedown on a shelf somewhere. You can think of SArdo, a new drone project created by researchers at Germany's NEC Laboratories Europe GmbH, as Apple's "Find My" app on steroids. The difference is that, while finding your iPhone is usually just a matter of convenience, the technology developed by NEC investigators could be a literal lifesaver.

SDR-based Testbed for Real-time CQI Prediction for URLLC

arXiv.org Artificial Intelligence

Ultra-reliable Low-Latency Communication (URLLC) is a key feature of 5G systems. The quality of service (QoS) requirements imposed by URLLC are less than 10ms delay and less than $10^{-5}$ packet loss rate (PLR). To satisfy such strict requirements with minimal channel resource consumption, the devices need to accurately predict the channel quality and select Modulation and Coding Scheme (MCS) for URLLC in a proper way. This paper presents a novel real-time channel prediction system based on Software-Defined Radio that uses a neural network. The paper also describes and shares an open channel measurement dataset that can be used to compare various channel prediction approaches in different mobility scenarios in future research on URLLC

Qualcomm Pushing the boundaries of AI research

#artificialintelligence

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is revolutionizing industries, products, and core capabilities by delivering dramatically enhanced experiences. However, this is just the start of the AI revolution. The field of AI, especially deep learning, is still in its infancy with tremendous opportunity for exploration and improvement. For instance, deep neural networks of today are rapidly growing in size and use too much memory, compute, and energy. To make AI truly ubiquitous, it needs to run on the end device within a tight power and thermal budget.
